Minoxidil causing itchy and dry scalp, leading to thinning hair?

I have been using Minoxidil for around 3-4 months. The first 3 months my scalp was fine and I had no itching, then all of sudden, a month ago my scalp became super flaky and I had a ton of redness and irritation around my hairline and upper forehead. (I have only been applying minoxidil once a day and typically showering after 4-5 hours)

Since then, I noticed I scratch my head while I sleep, and i'm worried its causing my hair around my hairline to thin. I know its normal to thin the hair in the beginning, but how long should I wait, and can it permanently ruin my hair thickness and scalp health?

I have since been using Nizoral Anti Dandruff Shampoo, and thinking of implementing Zinc and Seleium sulfide shampoos into my routine.

I think the problem before was that I used too much minoxidil at a time and it has became less itchy, but I still itch it while I sleep.

Looking for any advice or If I should just stop using minoxidil.
