minoxidil Effectiveness

Hi

If your hair loss is not male pattern baldness related, will minoxidil still be effective? As you may know, the instructions for Rogaine stress that it should not be used for forms of hair loss other than Hereditary.

To be honest I dont see why it wouldnt work as it is more a follicle stimulator as opposed to a DHT inhibitor.

Also, I am struggling to understand why when you stop using minoxidil, you lose all the hair gained by its use

Any discussion fellas?

Seems reasonable that it could help.

That's the common sense approach, i'd say the same.

Because the hairs stimulated by the minoxidil become dependant on minoxidil for life, as they were (in most cases) already on their way out. Minoxidil does not delay the natural hairloss process per se, the process still goes on, but you can maintain some of that hair with this external aid. It's similar keeping someone alive on a life suppost machine i suppose.

Good Point Lizzad

That makes sense to me...

minoxidil seems to be some good sh*t-- been on it for a couple of weeks but shed has been minimised by Folligen and no excess Irritation. Feeling confident that in about 4-5months things will go well. Eventually will be slowly getting off Propecia and staying on minoxidil but wanted to do them in conjunction for 3 months.

I had a shed from minoxidil after about 2 weeks, lasted about 3, and i've seen a LOT of improvement since then. Just recently had a small shed, lasted around 2 weeks. After 5 months on minoxidil, my hair looks MUCH better, temples filling in etc. Shedding seems to be a good thing in most cases.
