So i'm well into 3 weeks in my 1st Minoxidil treatment (Rogaine 5% foam/2 times/day) and hair loss treatment in my life and i want to ask long term minoxidil users of this forum on their long term usage strategy. I'm thinking of using 2 times/day for the 1st year to get the maximum regrowth and then switch to 1 time/day (at night) to sustain the results for the rest of the years to come. I'm not thinking of adding any other drugs in my regimen like propecia etc, apart from a Dermaroller 1.0mm i already have and used sometimes and a good shampoo. What worked best for you long term on using minoxidil efficiently and effectively on both results and ease of everyday life on it ? Is it possible to have a reduced usage after a period where you got the optimum results on regrowth and sustain this status with peace on mind?
Its really a committed long term journey so i wanna have a strategy in my mind.

Thanks in advance!

Ive been using about 4.5 mL once a day, at night, for about 17 months with very good results. Plan to continue.

Hey Floki.

Liquid, name brand Rogaine. 5%.

No other products or drugs.

Yeah, I had a little regrowth that has been maintained. But the main thing is that I stopped losing hair. I had a getting-bald spot that was rapidly getting worse. Now I have a less-bald spot, and it's not getting any worse. Also my hairline is better.

Normally I'd use 1ml on the hairline and 1 ml on the crown for 1 application. If you use it only once a day its advised to use at least double the recommended amount. Good advice from an expert doctor regarding this and other things is here:

first half year 90% regrow of lost hair. Then every month percentage was going down it went to 35% after 1,5 year, i think. I am restarting all regimen including finasteride ( i am off 1,5 month) Then i am again jumping on regimen.

Ps. I added finasteride after 9 months on minoxidil. and it was too late a bit.

Hi stachu, thanks for your reply. what do you mean by percentage going down ? the regrowth you had started going away ending up with 35% of the regrowth maintained only ? did you changed from 2/day to 1/day applications ? also you said you're also using finasteride so your results may not be comparable to mine that i only use minoxidil. you have used minoxidil alone successfully and for how long ?

thanks!

I used twice daily. On my temples and hairline. 0.5ml per aplication so 1ml daily.

Succes on only minoxidil isnt long term.
If youre middle/agressive loss. Combating hairloss without antiandrogens and only with minoxidil its like fighting with wind.

I had superior results after 6 months. From Norwood 2.5 to Nw0.5 or Nw1

But without antiandrogens.. Month after month i was loosing ground. And minoxidil lost effectivness a bit. I tried double concetration and triple ( minoxidil 10% and 15%) and effectivness was slighty increased.

I am pretty mad on myself that i didnt jumped on finasteride earlier. I would wear a Nw0 look atm. And currently i am decent and thick NW2.
