minoxidil for diffuse thinner

since minoxidil is intended to be placed directly on the bald spot, would this keep a diffuse thinner from using it since their entire head is balding and application to entire top of head is unpractical and doesn't work?? or do diffuse thinners still use minoxidil?

I apply minoxidil throughout my scalp. They say this on the box because that's the only location of the head that was studied.
