Minoxidil Giving Me No Side-effects, Could It Be Fake?

So I have been applying Minoxidil for 3 days now, and I have experienced nothing. No itching, no dry/flaky scalp, no increase in heartbeat, nothing.

Everything feels way too normal and I am worried that my product (called Mintop) may not be the real thing. My question is, is it common for people to use Minoxidil and still feel normal in every sense?

...it's been three days. It is far too early to tell if it will work or not.

Also, side effects are not guaranteed, nor are they a sign that the medication is working as intended; side effects are simply potential additional consequences of the medication.

The only side effect I've experienced from Minoxidil is mild hypertrichosis around the eyes, but wax solves that problem.

You're right on track. A usual time line for side effects is as follows -

week one: no notable side effects, perhaps mild itchiness

week two: increase in heart rate and changes in blood pressure

week three: rapid tachycardia as the worms start to infiltrate the myocardium

week four: internal vascular bleeding from aorta and carotid arteries. Blood may emerge from eyes.

stick with it bud! it takes time.

"3 days now"

Nothing can possibly change in less than 3 months. Besides, as That Guy rightly said, side effects are not guaranteed at all. Keep using it, don't worry.

I felt the same way the first week on liquid minoxidil. After a month the itching was so bad I just wanted to rip my hair out, not to mention my scalp felt so irritated and 'fried'.

Also, since I started growing my beard I take plenty of selfies, and while I can't exactly put my finger on it, it seems to me my face somehow looked slightly better, in the sort of a more cleaner smoother look before minoxidil. I hope it's just my mind playing tricks on me tho.
I've looked into skin care since I started applying minoxidil and now I use 0.025% retin-a cream every night and a moisturizer/sunblock during the day. I know this is still a very basic skin care routine, hopefully in the future I'll have my Patrick Bateman (American Psycho reference) routine locked down :p

bro don't believe the minoxidil skin aging crap . Me too at the beginning i was crazy worried about this and collagenb depletion, i almost did a nevous breakdown because of this, thinking i was getting a lot of wrinkle under my eyes .
I took a break of 2 week on holiday , on a surf trip , and i look better than ever , no wrinkle, no dark circle .

I use minoxidil on my face (entire beard) as well, so perhaps the alcohol in it isn't that good for the skin.

Update : I opened my second bottle 3 days ago, and my forehead, cheeks, ears and back of the neck are all covered with very fine dry red/yellowish bumps. It is very much like goosebumps, but it is dry and itchy. The region feels uncharacteristically warm too.

How do I fight this? Should I stop using minoxidil?

Must also mention that I have been rubbing extra-virgin olive oil on my face for last 3 days too. I am hoping that this is an allergy to oil and not minoxidil.

Itches and "flaming" skin isnt straight from minoxidil. Its due to vehicle.

Here's what I would suggest. It's going to take time.

- Stop using minoxidil.
- Stop using olive oil.
- Stop using anything except regular shampoo.
- Wait 1 month.
- If you still have these bumps, then see a dermatologist.
- If your symptoms disappear, then restart minoxidil only and make sure to get it from a reputable source like a pharmacy.
- Continue another 1.5 to 2 months with regular shampoo and minoxidil.
- If in this time you develop any kind of rash or very severe scalp itch, then try a minoxidil with glycerin instead of PPG, or change to foam minoxidil from a reputable source.
- If using the foam or PPG free minoxidil after 1 month doesn't resolve your issues, then see a dermatologists. You may have an allergy to either minoxidil or the alcohol in the solution is too much for you. The dr may have other minoxidil options to offer.

There's no other way. You must stop using anything other than regular shampoo or soap for a period to see if your issue improves, then add reputable minoxidil back in and monitor.

That was very helpful, thank you. I stopped both minoxidil and oil for last 4 days, and things are getting better. I'll get back on minoxidil and shampoo as soon as the symptoms disappear, and see what happens. If it happens again, I'll switch to foam. If that doesn't help either, I'll quit minoxidil and rather be on finasteride and dietary supplements.
