minoxidil is officially going systemic. I have always used a very very liberal amount to cover my whole head but my ankles are now swelling. I also have inverse T waves on my ECG without any heart disease. I also gained 11 pounds in 4 days. I'm so upset becuase I've Been growing my hair back like crazy.... now I see why.

I'm going to force myself to use less. Hopefully I can get the same affect and reduce these side effects

Sounding like you're using the liquid? Use only the recommend amount and wash it off with a cold shower head after 4 hours.

You can probably maintain with a lot less than you are using...I would use the recommened/directions not more than that. I you are using the recommended amount then cut it in half.

It seems weird that those sides would just be appearing now; haven't you been on the drug for almost 2 years now?

I use the foam and yes. I've been very immoderate with my use for 2 years now. Only in the past 3 months have these changes occurred. But there's no denying my swelling. My dad said it was badly swollen. I will use less I guess

Dude you were using a can every 2 days and ignored everyone's warnings. Use max 2ml per day, max a capful per day. Why mess with your health

I'm going to use less. I use foam. I only recently have had these side effects and before this my hair was growing back so well.... so I just continued to use a lot. But I agree with you. Health > hair

Good luck man, but using that much was bound to cause you problems, you were likely systemically absorbing nearly 75mg per day (1ml 2x per day I believe leads to around 5mg systemic absorption, you used 15 times that much, so 75mg). Be careful, not sure whether minoxidil is the kind of drug you just stop and it's fine, research and see if it's wise to taper down, or if you can just reduce directly to the recommended amount per day immediately. Let us know how you go.

Most of the side effects are reversible. The water retention is directly because of minoxidil. But Ive cut my application amount in half

But half is still way more than the recommended amount, right?

Being that you're having these side effects I'd cut down to the recommended amount, or much closer to it.

Still using more than 3/4 a cap. I cannot possibly cover my diffuse thinning with that. I also never had symptoms until I got "cocky" and started applying a crap ton. I was getting great results and didn't notice side effects. I never get dizzy and my BP is actually high, which you wouldn't expect. My echocardiogram and my stress echocardiogram all came back normal too

How long will it take you to go through a can at the rate you want to use it? (is a can 60ml, like the liquid?)

If I understand correctly, you were using a can every 2 days... so, 30ml a day?

I would say a can will now last me a week. A can is 60g but it's 5% minoxidil. So wouldn't that mean there's only 3 grams

Ah I see, it's in grams... anyway, if you use a can a week it seems that you'll be using 4x the recommended amount.

I know. Trust me, I'm trying to use as little as possible and cover that NW7 area. How much foam actually has to hit the skin for the follicle to absorb it?
