started diffuse thinning about 5 yrs ago but not until recently there is a bald spot on top of my head (under the sun), which shits me, used to have a full head of hair.. i mean FULL head of it!!
i went to see my physicians about 3 yrs ago as i remember, he wrote me a prescription i wasnt sure what it is... i ordered it, and used it about a month... and stopped coz I didnt see much results... now i review it again.. it is actually Minoxidil 2%!!!
i went to see the physicians again, and show him my head, more severe than 3 yrs ago, so i ask him to write me the prescription again, he said it is not going to be useful anymore!!

is it true ? is it bcoz i used it for a month 3 yrs ago, minoxidil wont work on me anymore? i just started my serious treatment of male pattern baldness this month with minoxidil2% + nizoral 2%, dont tell me it wont work... i m worried... and depressed now!!! help !~ >___<

Minoxidil works! 2% is less useful than 5%. Why the hell ain't you on 5% anyhow? And why do you need a doctor to prescribe it?

You need to use it for at least three months before you make any decision about a product.

Get 5%

Gerard,

If you are wanting to try minoxidil again, try the 5%. And skip the doctor visit unless you have some extenuating circumstances that you think require one.

minoxidil, both 2% and 5%, is available over the counter. If you are in the States, they sell it at every major grocery store or you can get a cheaper generic online at one of the many online drug stores. (this helps for us SoCal folk with the current grocery workers' strike... Thank God I don't have to cross a picket line just to maintain my hair regimen!)

I know that story well. Diffuse thinning, didn't start anything or took it too serious until the bald spot showed up (5 years time too). Are you in a another ocuntry besides the U.S. where need a prescription for minoxidil? I would suggest asking for a propecia or proscar prescription too.

in canada i m
no prescrption for minoxidil , stupid me alrdy got 3 month supplyof 2% so lets start with that
i also got prescription for propecia but i wont do it, if i need a DHT blocker, i will go for topical solution, (like reviviogen, spironolactone?)

anyway, back to the original topic, the scare is because physician told me that, if you used it once 3 yrs ago and didnt complete the treatment, you are using it again and it may not work.

is that true? or no?

I don't know what your Doctor is talking about. I've never heard anything like that. Maybe he meant that if it didn't work for you in the past there's no reason to think it would now? If you didn't complete the treatment, i.e. use it for 3-6 months (long enough to judge effectiveness) there's no way to know if it would or wouldn't work. Then or now.

Just stick with it for 4-6 months, that's the only way to find out if it will work for you.

Not sure if you can get 5% minoxidil in Canada, but you can order generic minoxidil off of ebay (4 months for around $35). In my experience 5% takes much longer to dry than 2%, so you could use the 2% for mornings and the 5% at night. Might be a good plan.
