minoxidil sides question?

Since being on minoxidil (rogaine 5% liquid) for the last 2 weeks, I have noticed like a continual heart burn feeling. Also, sometimes I have a static feeling across my body everywhere - like uncomfortable tingling.

I was told it may be my imagination playing tricks on me - but I can safely say it isn't and these are very real sensations. I don't want to over-hype or under-hype what I am experiencing - as I want to use minoxidil but I also don't want to suffer health implications.

Is what I am experiencing normal or case for alarm?

Anyone? I kind of want to know whether I should nip this in the bud right now if these are cause for alarm. I'm going to see my Doctor about it soon but would like to know what peoples experiences of minoxidil sides and particularly the ones I mention.

i had sensations similar to those when i first started minoxidil, they eventually went away. just make sure you're using the recommended dose and apply it to a dry scalp. i've since developed an allergy to it and can't use it anymore.

Thanks for the reply. So you had them, they went away (your body became accustomed to it?)... may I ask how you developed an allergic reaction to it eventually? I feel like I have mini electric shocks over my body randomly, sound familiar? If it is the minoxidil and it carries on then it's too uncomfortable and i'd rather not mess around with my heart and whatever causes these strange sides.

I use regaine 5% liquid and spray it six times on my head - that's the stated amount that reaches 1ml, maybe it is not accurate. Should I spray just 3 or 4 times instead? I'm actually very fit and run 3 times a week and 4-5 times a week lifting weights - so I don't usually feel strained and so I value that health.

Sorry for all the questions, just I know whether to quit minoxidil or not is a bit of a big deal in terms of fighting hairloss. Waiting on Fincar to arrive.

I've heard of heart palpitations as a minoxidil side effect but never this particular problem. Are you sure you aren't having heart palpitations?

I get heart palpitations from stress, smoking, alcohol, strong coffee, etc, so a minor heart palpitation from minoxidil doesn't bother me. I made it sound like I have heart problems, but I get them very rarely and only for a few seconds at a time. Basically, it's not a big deal.

It is very hard for me to explain.. all-day I have a permanent feeling in the heart area that is a kind of heightened sensitivity there, occasionally it beats faster/harder than usual even when I am just sitting down. The tingles happened today mainly and felt slightly similar to the feeling you get when you have pins and needles in your arm or leg.

I have never had these occurrences up until using minoxidil, so if these are purported sides, are they harmful or just a disturbance. I might just jack in minoxidil (only been using it for 2 weeks) if this persists.

This sounds like palpitation to me...

A quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palpitation :
Nearly everyone experiences an occasional awareness of their heart beating, but when it occurs frequently, it can indicate a problem.

It's probably nothing, but I can imagine you are feeling even more stressed now and the increased stress only makes your palpitations worse. Try to relax and let it go. If relaxing doesn't help, go and see a professional.

Also, remember that I'm not a medical doctor. If you think it's something serious, seek medical advice ASAP!

I don't know what those tingles are...

Just got back from the docs, she said my heart rate is really healthy but my blood pressure was quite high, although I had her do it again at the end and it had dropped significantly. I didn't use the 2nd dose of minoxidil yesterday and I haven't used any today - just to see if the sides subside. They aren't as strong as yesterday but they're present on a low-level. I think I am not suitable for minoxidil.. probably gonna sack it off. Not sure about getting on Propecia now.. side effects piss me off.
