So I was on minoxidil for about 6 years or so. Ever since moving up to 5% about 2 years ago I've been loosing more and more hair. I've always worried that it was causing more hairloss somehow so I tried quitting once a few months back and noticed less fall-out. I started back up out of fear of loosing more in the long run (and by the advise of people here).

So......I tried stopping again and it's been about 4 weeks. I've gone from loosing about a few hundred hairs in the shower to about 5. Trust me, it's true. The thing complicating the assessment is at around the same time I started taking Synthroid (I've been diagnosed with mild hypothyroidism with antibodies (hashi's)). Of course I wonder if this might have contributed to the decrease in fall-out. Though there is my experience a few months back as well.

Since all of this, my scalp has been very itchy. I've always had seborrheic dermatitis, and at times on the scalp, but I've had it under control for a long time now. It's just flared up again. Very irritated, red, flakey, itchy, tingly, tickling. Can this be sign of a change? Good or bad? Can stopping minoxidil cause such a thing or is this a coincidence? Maybe it's hormonal changes due to the Synthroid?

I hope someone can shed light on this and give advise on what I should do. Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

I went through the exact same experience with minoxidil. When I was using it twice a day for years I'd lose tons of hair. When I stopped it for about a week, my loss went to only a few hairs a day. I am back on it now due to fear that I'll lose mor ein the long run - but I am using it once a day at night.
