Anyone experienced weight gain from minoxidil/rogaine etc?

I've been using rogaine for about 8 weeks and pleasantly surprised with the results - hair looks fuller in the balding areas and defo feel like my hairline has improved, but it's still early days.

I run and exercise reguarly and I often weigh myself every month, if anything the last few weeks I've not drunk much alcohol at all if even any and although I have a treat day where I can eat 'bad' foods. I've put on about 7pounds in a month.
Feels like my breasts are bigger too :(

Anyone else experienced weight gain via rogaine?

I'm going to give this week, a very healthy week and see if I've cut down a pound or two by the end of the week.

Well man, mild weight gain is listed as a possible side effect...

When I started minoxidil after a couple of months I remember thinking I'd developed an extra few pounds around the waistline, at the same time I would get rapid heartbeat also. I was very slightly overdosing on my minoxidil applications.

Ever since though I've tried to make sure that my dose is always below 1ml per application, rather than just above it and I think this has helped. Don't get rapid heartbeat anymore and I'm relatively trim around the waist, given how little exercise I do thesedays.

Try lowering the dose, but if that doesn't work then you should really quit because weight gain and growth around the breasts can be very serious in the long term.

Thanks for your advice.

The first few weeks of applications I was using too much, I know this as I finished my first bottle after 3 weeks, but the last weeks I'm using smaller applications.
Will keep an eye on things and see how it goes.

Given that only about 2% is systemically absorbed, I find it hard to believe that minoxidil can cause weight gain.

Yeah your right the systemic absorption rate is 1.8 % . There is 50 mg in each 1 ml and 1.8 % of that equates to 0.9 mg/ml

I guess it all depends upon how much you apply as to the severity of the sides.

If you have to cover the entire top of your scalp you might use 2 ml twice daily which means 4 times 0.9 mg that's 3.6 mg . This is enough to cause side effects like weight gain due to fluid and salt retension. It could also cause bad tachycardia, and chest pain.

Well, given that it's listed on the side of the box as a possible side effect, I think it's pretty easy to believe actually... :uglylol:

Also, I'd appreciate it, if you'd stop trying to tool all of my thread replies with unsubstantiated, unscientific nonsense.

As a female who doesn't even suffer from hairloss, I'm not really sure why you're so fascinated by male pattern baldness treatments, but anyway...

Just an update. I think I was taking far too much apart from the odd night of feeling weasy, I've now got the just of the doses and my weight seems to be quite stable.

As for the minoxidil, the area where it mentions the highest change of success (the back/crown etc) I've not noticed much difference but the hairline area is def improving.

Thanks for the replies guys.

(1) I have hair loss, fool, and I don't know why you think I don't just because I'm female.

(2) Just because something's on a list of potential side effects doesn't mean there's conclusive evidence, or even any real evidence that the drug caused it... they put every reported side effect to cover their own ***.

(3) Saying I find something hard to believe isn't the same as saying that I believe it's not true. I do find it difficult to believe that applying 1-2mL of a 5% solution is enough to cause significant internal side effects... but I'm not going to say that it can't.

(4) What the hell does "tool all of my thread replies" mean? This isn't your thread, I didn't quote you, so why do you think my response has anything to do with you? Is it just that you don't like it when a later response doesn't completely agree with your post?
