With all i've read on the net about propylene glycol i decided to try a 5% minoxidil solution without it. The bottle i had custom made shows some powder in the bottom not succesfully diluted.
Is propylene glycol indispensable for the minoxidil to dilute? Any workarounds? I really don't feel comfortable to apply all this amount of pg
twice a day for the rest of my life.

PPG is used in 5% solutions to dissolve the minoxidil which is insoluble in just alcohol in concentrations over 3% (or thereabouts) It sounds as if you have some minoxidil crystallizing at the bottom of your bottle which would tell me that it's not dissolving completely in whatever the solution consists of.....what is it by the way? Anyway, you can buy 5% solutions from minoxidil.com which are professionally compounded using glycerin instead of ppg. It's a bit pricey at about 19 bucks a bottle and you'll need to come up with a 20 dollar consultation fee (US only) You can try the rogaine foam as well which contains minimal amounts of ppg compared to the solution and is cheaper than the previous. Spectral DNC is another choice but very expensive IMO for essentially minoxidil loaded with unproven ingredients, although I hear its good.

I believe commercial minoxidil (rogaine etc) contain more PPG than is actually needed to dissolve the minoxidil. I think they use as much as they do because it also helps the absorption.

Thanks beaner. This is exactly what happens. The minoxidil crystallizes at the bottom of my bottle.
You do mention glycerin instead of ppg. I can have it prepared for me by a pharmacist here. I'll ask whether he has any clue about it.
Any ideas about the actual recipe perhaps? That would be lots of help i guess.
I'll stick to minoxidil solution. It works for me great! No way i use the foam...my head is full of hair at the moment.

Sorry. I think the solution is just alcohol and water.

Well, there's your problem...you shouldnt trust a minoxidil solution made of alchohol and water  Where are you from? I want to give you the best advice. If you don't want to use the rogaine foam and you also want a ppg free solution, then your best bet would be the minoxidil.com ppg free minoxidil. Even with the initial consultation fee (US only) it still works out better than the others in the long run and you're definitely getting quality product.

Have you heard of Dr. Lee's PPG Free minoxidil?
