Ladies, I must share my story. I had the Mirena IUD inserted in 12/05. By April of 2006, my hair was falling out in clumps. I could not believe how much hair I was losing. It was sooo depressing. I am 39 years old, still having regualr periods, and have no children ( so this was not post-partum loss). After having blood work, etc., I finally checked the Mirena package insert and was startled to find that hair loss is a listed side effect (there was no mention of this from my Gyn) I then Googled "mirena hair loss" and was shocked to find testimonial after testimonial of women who lost their hair after haiving the Mirena inserted.

I finally had my Mirena removed in 12/06. It took 4 months, but the massive daily loss stopped and I have experienced major regrowth.
Something to consider ladies.

did you ever suffer from any type or other hair loss before? i have the mirena iuc but i am suffering from traction alopecia (tight hair styles due to braiding and locks). i have two bald spots on the sides of my temples the size of quarters if not bigger. i am on a regime that my derm put me on but she never asked me about my birth control. i am going to schedule a second opinion based on what you said because my hair loss has gotten worse. it was already bad but since i had the iuc put in me two years ago my hair is horrible.
