Starting in February I noticed that when I washed my hair A LOT more hair than usual would fall out, by the end of March this was still happening and I started to notice that my hairline was receding. The hair falling out was not growing back and I began to notice the hair loss, especially when my hair is wet.

I freaked out and went to a doctor, he did blood tests and everything came back fine. He sent me to a dermatologist, he didn't even look at my hair and told me it was hardly noticeable (even though I could definitely see a change), he told me to get some Rogaine or something, that appointment lasted less than 5 minutes. I went back to my doctor who told me it is probably male pattern baldness and that I would have to see how it unfolds over the next few years before taking Propecia. I was not too satisfied with any of the doctors, none of them actually looked at my hair in any detail or was concerned.

The hair falling out stopped, but my hairline is still rapidly receding. It is making me very concerned and recently a few good friends asked me about my hair.

I can cover it up, but its getting harder, and it makes me feel very self conscious, as nobody at my school is visibly balding.

My hair at the front was never straight across, it always went in slightly at the temples, but it was always thick. I noticed when its receding the hairs at the front will become limp and sort of fall or lie down funny on my scalp, if I see these hairs I know in the next two days they will fall out, and they do. Now if I spike my hair at the front it looks like a forest because you can see each individual hair.

So what should I do? I don't want to start Propecia when I have lost a lot of hair already. Is it just a mature hairline and I'm over reacting? Am I a Norwood I, II or III?

My family has a history of male pattern baldness on both sides.

These two pictures are taken last week:

This picture was taken exactly one year ago this week, I would say my hairline looked like this since I was 13:

This picture was taken the same time as the first two:

It does not look too bad, but the hair and the sides is really just covering up the baldness.

Re: What should I do? I'm 17 and my hair is receding.

I forgot to add that I started using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. I find them good at making my hair look thick and feel good. I have been using Nizoral as well.

I tried Rogaine but gave up after two days because I couldn't style my hair after applying it as my hair was wet and it weighted my hair down or something.
