more than 1ml of minoxidil does not help???

I know it says this on the box, just like it says only to put in on the back. But have there been any studies showing that only 1mL can be absorbed? If so, does that mean using more than 1/2 mL on the back is waste, if more than 1mL on the whole head is too much? But they only say to use it on the back. I smell BS. And what about people who apply two topicals at the same time, like 1mL of tricomin followed by 1mL of minoxidil? Does that exceed the 1mL limit? BTW, I got my huge minoxidil regrowth when I was applying 4mL twice a day, to the front. Not sure if the dose played a part.

If I put lots of minoxidil on, my heart starts racing like mad. So it's probably a little white lie to stop some numpty pouring the whole bottle on his head and vasodilating to the point where blood oozes out of his pores.

Oh and I read a study once about a guy who drank a whole bottle of minoxidil  he lived to tell the tale too.

There was a study several years ago showing that when you start applying multiple 1 mL doses of Rogaine (this was back in the days of 2% Rogaine), you quickly reach a point where the skin is saturated with minoxidil, and further applications have no effect. I need to dig-up that study again, to see how many that was. I think it was something like 4 or 5 applications per day, but I don't wanna trust my memory on this...

it sounds rational.

A few years back the first time I used rogaine I was on 5% and applied it constantly I would go through a bottle a week easily. My hair grew wicked thick but i got hair all over my face to... like all around my eyebrows... but God did my hair look good. then eventually my heart starting racing at night and I thought i was getting anxiety attacks and then came the dizzy spells. So after 5 months I went threw about 20 bottles of rogaine and stopped using it all together until this summer. It definitely does work better and faster the more you use... I think the body just cannot handle it though.

That really is a lot of minoxidil

Maybe putting more than 2 doses a day on specific areas of the head might be something to consider, though? Hmm... :)

Rogaine foam would be no trouble at all to apply in the middle of the day to the thinning/bald bits of my head.

It says to apply 1ml in the bald areas. But for people who have difuse thinning in the top of head clearly 1ml is not enough to cover it.

Here is the abstract for the study I was thinking of in my post above:

Clin Pharmacol Ther. 1989 Apr;45(4):396-402. "Absorption of minoxidil after topical application: effect of frequency and site of application." Eller MG, Szpunar GJ, Della-Coletta AA.

The effect of application site and frequency on the systemic absorption of topical minoxidil was studied in 52 normal men. Subjects received 1 ml 3% minoxidil solution applied four, six, or eight times daily to the scalp or two, four, six, or eight times daily to the chest for 14 days. Serum and urine were collected and analyzed for minoxidil. No systemic minoxidil accumulation occurred from increasing application frequency to the scalp. Trends in the chest data suggest that absorption may have been lower with the twice-daily regimen. Absorption through the scalp and chest were similar for the lower-frequency regimens; however, trends in the eight-times-a-day regimens suggest that absorption may have been somewhat greater from application to the scalp. Systemic minoxidil accumulation resulting from frequent application is unlikely. The initial dose probably saturates the skin for a period of time longer than the dosing intervals examined.

well that study just says it saturated the skin it was on, not the whole scalp. It also seems kind of inconclusive to me. And we don't know if the minoxidil or the vehicle saturated the skin.
