I am a 34 years male and I am new at this forum. I am suffering from diffuse thinning at my crown and i also realised that my hair are finer than what it used to be. It's a sign of female pattern hairloss.

I wanted to seek advice on whether starting the rogaine regime (alone) would help. I am quite reluctant to take Finasteride due the side effects.

You have male pattern baldness, not female. Finasteride side effects are relatively rare (less than 2% of users). See the table below.

Rogaine foam is good for temporary regrowth, but unlike Propecia it won't stop the underlying balding process.

Is it possible to take finasteride in lower dosage (say 0.5) and still see result?

uh huh. but start with 1mg and cross the bridge of sides when you come to it. fins no big deal really.

I have decided to give finasteride a try for 2 years. Should I start with Propecia or Finpecia? Does it make any difference?
