I'll keep it brief and get right to the point. I'm a 21 year old female who's losing my hair fairly rapidly, as well as my 57 year old mother and 49 year old father. I'm at my wits end and I'm honestly scared.

I've seen the dermatologist over three times; had my blood taken, everything was fine. First guy said it was genetic but that I wouldn't go bald, second doctor said I had a scalp infection and that it was extremely dry, so she gave me some medication (which cleared up the infection) and a medicated shampoo to use every few days. She also told me to put baby oil on my scalp overnight every few days as well. I've been doing that and my scalp is definitely less sore, but it's still incredibly dry. I guess I might have to go back.

Anyway, my hair is still thinning, and the rate it's thinning at is worrisome. I started losing hair when I was 16, but then the loss slowed down a bit, though my hair never became thick again like it used to. I had moved to a different state, I should add. I'm now living back at home (where my hair loss initially started), but it's progressing and I'm becoming very depressed. The biggest issue is that my mother and father are also rapidly balding and it's quite shocking to notice it, because it's very obvious that they're losing their hair just as quickly. Neither of them seem as concerned as I am.

So I wanted to ask... could the environment be causing this? I heard that mold exposure could cause hair loss if the person's allergic, but I know that might be false (but I'm concerned, because our apartment does have a lot of mold... it's very old and our landlord is more like a slumlord). Any advice on what I should do? Get anything tested? Please help me, I'm desperate and will appreciate any and all advice.

Try Jojoba oil on your scalp (not an oil , it is a wax) overnight 2/3 times a week

Will that help with the dryness or something? If so, I'll try it out; the baby oil doesn't seem to be strong enough for me, so maybe something thicker/more moisturizing might work.

Did you test your hormones? In many cases the reasons of women's hairloss are hormonal.
Regarding your dry sculp - there are plenty of home made recipes, really good for your skin and hair. For ex this one:

Blend two ripe bananas in a food processor and add 2 teaspoons each of lime juice, olive oil and honey in food processor. Then apply the mask on your dry scalp and hair ends and massage gently. Leave it on for about 30 minutes and finally rinse off using a mild shampoo.
The best part about this mask is that it's equally effective for dandruff and dull hair.

Make sure there is nothing in the house since you and your mom and dad are all balding. Lead. Mercury. You know. Then go get tested at your dr's for things like lupus. Thyroid disease. Low iron /. LowVits B, D. Talk to your dr he or she should know what to test to make sure you are not ill from something else. If so correction of it will likely correct the hair fall.
