Hi,
first post for me, and I love this site. So much good information.

I havn't tried anything more than 5% Monoxodyl, I'm currently in my 5th month of usage. I have minor thinning on scalp, and a little more thinning at the front
I respond to monoxodyl very well, and want to add Finisteride to my regimen. I don't just want to maintain, I want to see if I'm one of those who will regrow some too.

1)I was looking at United Pharmacies, and from the forums they sound like a very good company. But is it true they don't require a prescription though? This seems a little odd, but may be far more convenient for some including myself.

2) Instead of Proscar split into 4/5 pieces, I see they have a product called Finast for a very low price. Has anyone used this product or could I get some input on Finast's effectiveness compared to, say, Proscar? I know from a quote by Dr Lee that proscar is manufactured 'homogenously' meaning the finisteride is distributed evenly throughout the pill, but what about Finast?

I've read a lot here about how a Monoxodyl/finisteride combo seems to be a good starting regimen, and I'd like to go that route. I'm just wondering about the whole 'no prescription reguired' thing. Just doesnt sound right is all...

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Finast is the same thing as Proscar. It's just a generic version manufactured by Dr. Reddy's out of India. It's much cheaper than the branded Merck version(Proscar) but it does exactly the same thing. You can get a year's supply for like $75 so it's a pretty sweet deal.

As for the no prescription deal, that doesn't make a company more or less reputable. There are plenty of pharmacies online that don't require prescriptions.

Finast is also distributed evenly throughout the pill just like proscar. And you don't have to cut the Proscar or Finast or Fincar(another Proscar generic) in perfect pieces, because it doesn't matter if the dosage varies from day to day. It's okay if you take 0.5 mg one day and 2 mg the next and then 0.5 mg the next. Finasteride is a pretty versatile drug.

Fincar, another Proscar generic, is the same price on United Pharm's website as Finast.

Well that's all very good news indeed :)

I guess I could add a couple more quick questions too....

When you order from United pharmacies, how long is the average delivery time of the products? This will help in reordering, (a long time down the road )

Also, I thought I read something about the shelf life of these pills being very short, especially when cut... What process does a person normally follow to keep a year's supply fresh? Is it better to cut a lot of pills up front, or only every 4-5 days as needed? Is it better to get a several month's supply as opposed to a full year's supply?

I know, a lot of questions, but would like to do things right of course.

Thanks!

Not sure about United. I know when I ordered some Dutasteride from InHouse, it came 8 days after I ordered. I'd order 6 months at a time if I were you and order the next batch 2 months before it's needed. The drugs have a very long shelf life. My last four month batch of Proscar said it expired in February 2008, so don't worry about it expiring as long as you buy a year or less supply at a time.

What I did with my Proscar is I only took one pill out of the pack at a time, and cut it in 4 pieces. When I ate the last piece, I then took out another pill and cut that one. So I never had more than one pill cut up at once. You can do this too if you want. It only takes like 10 seconds to cut a pill in fourths anyway with a good pill cutter. And I do recommend using a pill cutter over a knife. So much easier.
