My comprehensive month 4 propecia update

Today is officially my 4th month on propecia. I started it on 24th April this year and I’ve also learnt that you shouldn’t really judge if propecia ‘is for you’ until you are at least at the 6 month mark. But anyway, here’s a month 4 update with pictures.

Basically when I started the treatments I was a norwood 2.5 nearing a 3. 23 years old.

In the past, 8 months ago today, I could style my hair using a centre parting and it looked good. By the time March came, I found that my hair had got much thinner and I was unable to style it like I used to. It was fvcking panic stations all 'round. :freaked2:

Right, so far I haven’t really noticed much. Maybe the condition of my hair looks better. You can judge for yourself with the pics, but they're not as clear as I’d like them to be. When I get out of the bath I see many hairs (from my head) in the tub. Maybe it’s a shed, maybe it isn’t. Maybe the propecia isn’t in full force yet. I don’t know. Maybe I have more hair maybe I don’t. I honestly cannot tell. Yet. In a years time, I *will* be able too. Other then that, I don’t really lose much throughout the day. As my hair is shorter, it’s hard to notice anyway. I suppose I can be more accurate at month 6 or 7 but thus far, 'is it working' is the question? Fvck knows is the answer! I haven’t got a Scooby Doo. On another note, I haven’t had any side effects - I haven’t grown any breasts yet so at the moment my weekends are pretty unfulfilled.

I’ve also been applying minoxidil for about 3.5 months. For the 1st 2.5 months I was applying 2ml per day to the vertex and the hairline. By the time the 2.5 month mark came around I felt frustrated. I found that I could no longer apply this sh!t to my hair and have it look acceptable. It just isn’t possible. I don’t know how this company expects you to go about with crap in your hair and be accepted. Anyhow, I then decided to just apply it to the hairline and have done since 27th July. I really don’t hold much hope with this stuff but I will use it anyway. I have 2.5 bottles left and if I don’t see something by the time I’ve used them up I will say good bye to this gunk. That will be at the 6 month mark. I’ve read many posts saying minoxidil works on the hairline and have read more saying it doesn’t. So far it’s made a slight change. Especially at the month 2 mark. I noticed black hairs along it but hasn’t been anything life changing.

At this point it is really worrying. I can *no longer* style my hair. This time last year I had a centre parting and it looked good. Now as you can see, the top view of my hair looks hideous. Getting it cut shorter has made it grow back a bit funny.

Will the propecia work for me? I hope so. If I’m not reporting something positive in another 2/3 months then I’ll be disappointed. Gutted in fact, but I’ll use it for a year either way.

If not, then by the time I’m 24 and half I’ll have no choice but to get surgery and (hopefully) fix this once and for all.

I spend far too long on the forums. HairlossTalk, HairSite & HairlossHelp. I know they are here to help us but I’d like to not be using them for about 3 hours a day. Does that sound familiar to any of you?

Due to using hairloss treatments, my social life has taken a turn for the worst. My plan was to lie low for a year until they kick in anyway. Especially the propecia. I feel it can reverse my situation if only I give it time. I hope it’s worth it.

This is like some kind of freaking hobby isn’t it? It’s worrying. I’d rather not be doing this in the 1st place but like many, I feel my appearance has changed due to significant thinning over the last 2 years and it’s like a kick in the stomach.

Without sounding selfish and keeping things into perspective that is.

I think you still look okay, and if you do maintain that head of hair, everyone else will eventually catch up to you and look "balder" or whatever.

I understand the frustration of not being able to do certain things with your hairstyle, though. For me, I saw results in about 3 months on the outer rim of my crown where the thinning was minimal. The thinner, more advanced hair took longer than that. It took my hairline like 10 months to change noticably.

Still, I'd bet that while you've seen no cosmetic change, your hair count probably has gone up. I'd stick with it if there are no side effects.

Thanks for the reply axon. and yes, the styling issue is a bugger.

People like you bruce, stingray etc.

I just don't have any...I have one before picture, and I've yet to take any of the after situation.

Someday I'll crack and buy a digi cam.

Gunner, your hair looks pretty good, man, you should be doing something about those terrible sideburns

With that much hair and at your age I'm gonna guess you got a real good chance of thickening up if you think your hair is thin.

I don't see any before pictures, only July and August? And they are a little fuzzy like Bigfoot pictures.

Early days yet! See how things are at xmas!

I've noticed Freddie Lungberg, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Viera not to mention Wiltord have a case of the old recession...maybe you should start supporting another team? Maybe it will help?
