To start propecia and extra strength rogaine, he took pics of my hairline on each side and told me im not that bad right now so he thinks i should as he said attack it hard right from the start and go back in 6 mts and he can see what kinda progress i made, he told me he heard on the radio last night that they think they found the cure, somehting to do with protein or something he said he caught it right at the end though so he dont know anything more about it..i told him i was thinking of getting a restoration in the front and he advised me to wait until i'm around 30, i'll be 24 in may , he said i should start on this stuff and if that cure he heard about is legit everything should be ok, i'm very aprehensive about starting this stuff, he wrote me a prescription for propecia, i also use nizoral so i'd be using those 3 all at the same time right from the start, what do you guys think i should do?

Sounds to me like you encountered one of the very few intelligent and educated derms available. I would take him up on that advice and do exactly what he says. Hold off on the transplant and start treatment!

Your Doctor is right. You need to hit it hard with everything you got.

You need to attack to get

Good moisture shampoo . I use AG shampoo and conditioner, adds all the moisture back in your hair. Your scalp is probley etremely dry. You need to add moisture back. Those shampoos are really good.

Fish oil - Helps skin

Hair vitamins = They work.

A good anti oxidant to attack free radicals, they help with hair and overall health

Rogaine 5%.

Gl and keep us posted.

your derm

Hey, I'm curious about something...I have been reading these posts for a couple years and seen posts off and on about men going to see their "derm"...

its weird to me...I saw a doctor maybe once a year when I was in the military, and about 5 times since ( I'm 33 now)...I can't imagine having my own "derm"

What would cause someone to go to one, because it sounds like many of you already HAD one before male pattern baldness...I mean, it sounds like a specialist, and as I guy, I just thought I was normal in that I never had a specialist.

I didn't start going to a dermatologist until I got on Propecia.

Well a "derm" is a skin doctor.I went to one when i had a wart that i couldnt kill so they froze that b**ch off. That was the only reason i have ever gone to a dermatologist.Although at the main desk they had Skittles.... so i would go there again just for the hell of it.

Keeping in mind minoxidil only works well for a few years, I'd just start on Propecia and Nizoral first. If that does not work after 6-12 months, then start the minoxidil. Better to keep the minoxidil for later. Its a serious business we're talking here. You have limited ammunition thats proven to work so use it wisely.

Well, I'm on my 3rd day of Propecia, it was hard for me to take the first pill, because I've been putting off taking this for about 2 yrs. now, it's kinda like admitting to myself that I have this problem and it's getting so bad that I have to do this, because my hair has always been my favorite feature on myself, I used to have beautiful hair and now that I have to do this it's kinda depressing for me, but also I'm I won't say excited, but anxious to see if this will help me, I also got the Rogaine but I haven't used it yet, I'm very nervous to use that so I think I might hold off on that for awhile and stick to the Propecia and Nizoral for right now and see if that helps me, I'm not really bad yet, I think Iam of course because I've seen how my hair has changed lately but noone else thinks I'm bad, even my derm said I'm not that bad yet so maybe I'm catching it in time, and hopefully this will keep what I have at least, I'm praying for some regrowth around the hairline that's where it's bad at, I've been wearing my hair with a part for a number of years now and I don't know if that is accelerating the receeding process on me or not, most people I've asked says no, but I can't help but wonder.
I'm nervous about the possible side effects, I told my derm about the things I've read on here that has happened to people and he told me that he has never had a complant of any side effect for anyone he's ever given it to, I know it's like 5 outta 1,000 people or something like that get the side effects but it still worries me, but at this point I really don't care, my hair has got so thin the past week, I use a straightening iron on the ends of my hair because my hair is wavy and sometimes unmanageable there and its got to the point I can't style my hair without this thing, I don't use it long and it's an ionic cermanic iron so it's a good one, but I don't know if it's hurting me or not, so for the past few days I've been conditioning my hair after I wash it and I have a leave-in conditioner now so hopefully this will help some, but thanks all for the advice and hopefully this will help me some, good luck to all of you as well.

You need to try to relax bro. Do your best. Those 5 out of a 1000 all come here and posts negative stuff. And, unintentionally, I think a lot of them exagerate greatly. Their stressed, worried and thinking unclear.

Thanks, I'm trying to, this is a real tramatic thing for me, as I'm sure it is for you and everyone else here, it's all kinda hitting me at once, I tried to stay off the propecia as long as i could and when i saw how thin and bad my hair has got the past few days I like snapped and jumped on it, it's like everytime i look in the mirror at my hairline i feel it's getting worse I know that's exaggeration about it maybe it's just stress I don't know, I guess I just had to vent or something and hear from some people that I'm doing the right thing and it's going to get better hopefully.

I hear ya bro....I was in the same boat a few months back. Listen,
It's definitly worth trying to do something about it. DO yourself a favor and take some pictures of your hairloss now so you have something to compare it to in a few months. I'm on the big 3 and it's working great for me. I took some before and after pics and was floored when I saw the results I got. If I didn't take those before pics I never would have thought it was working so well. Go to this thread link to see my photos and read my post. http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... php?t=7791

In the next 2 months you may think it's not working. The important thing is to make a commitment to yourself that you're gonna ride this out for a year. I hope it works out for ya. I know how that depression can take over. Good luck

Wow, you've definetly had some great improvements in a short time, congrats. I'm hoping that I can be as good of a responder to them as you have been. My derm took pics of each side of my hairline before I left his office and he said he wants me to start on the treatments and come back in 6 mts, and he said he's certain that I'll see improvements and we'll compare the pics he took a few days ago to whatever I'll look like in 6 mts when I go back. I also took some pics of my hairline a little over a month ago, in my mind I think it's got worse, but I'm not sure if that is reality or my mind playing tricks on me or what, but here's the link to my hairline pics that I took a few mts ago, this is with my hair brushed back, as I said I usually wear it down, parted and you can't tell at all that I'm losing my hair, which is why I wear it like that, everyone I tell I'm losing my hair to says I'm nuts and they don't believe me so I guess I still have that on my side for a little while anyway.
Just copy and paste the link.

Chris,

It looks like you're catching it at a good time before it gets really noticeable. I'm guessing you should see good results from Propecia and I'll be rootin for ya. Find a good shampoo and conditioner to use on days you're not using Nizoral. Read my regimen for what I've been using, I feel it works great....I also just found a new conditioner that works well with my shampoo. It's called "Dumb Blond" by Bed Head Tigi. I also really liked Nioxin's scalp therapy conditioner. Both of these wash out easily and don't leave any residue. FYI I use conditioner daily.

Wish you the best. PM me if you ever need to get something off your chest. I was 24 (wow almost 10 years ago) when I first started to lose my hair too and I know how horrible it felt. It's even worse when you have nobody to talk to about it.
