My perfected styling regime for diffuse hair. A MUST READ

Hey guys

Id thought id make a thread to help fellow diffuse thinners like me.

I go through a specific hair styling method to make my hair look "decent". I guess with it continuing to thin this isn't sustainable but for now this really, really, makes a huge cosmetic difference.

Firstly i use a nice shampoo. I find Nizoral 1% to be decent on the hair. Nizoral 2%, on the other hand, is pretty rough on the hair.

After i get out of the shower i pat my hair down gently with a tower to it is half dry.

At this point i apply my toppik and rub it through gently.

Then i dry my hair USING A HAIR DRYER. This is good because it helps the toppik set in and stick to the hair. It's also better than drying your hair with a towel which can be sore on thinner hair like mine.

Now comes the styling.

The best options, i find is:

daxwax1.jpg

This stuff can really hold your hair and also can create nice density. Great stuff.

BUT my most proud finding is this....

TRESEMME HAIRSPRAY...

This stuff is SERIOUS good. Im sure any decent hair spray can do the same job. Seriously, before i discovered this, i was having terrible problems with wind wrecking my hair. NO MORE. This stuff holds my hair like a rock despite it looking completely normal. I LOVE IT. It used to be my hair could only go looking decent for a few hours unattended to, now this can have it last pretty much all day. A real joy!

Cliff notes:

- Apply toppik when your hair is half wet half dry. Use a hairdryer to dry fully.
- Use red dax wax
- Use tresemme hair spray. Beat the wind!

Enjoy :)

Would love your feedback on this!!

I have heard ALOT of bad storys about dax from friends and pretty much every forum i looked at when i googeled for a good vax some time ago. Extremely hard to wash out/damage the hairs and one or two guys even had to use the clipper to get it out.
A wax i really like is Renate - Strong Hold Glaze. You can alter the hairstyle somewhat even some time after applying but i guess your hairspray whould fix that. The best one ive ever used was L'anza - Urban Molding Paste. It added thickness and i chould throw my thin hair everywhere with it and it whould stay there, it was still not hard but movy tho.

Any possibility you chould add a before and after picture of your styling? That counts for everyone :) I can see if i take a picture next time i style mine too. Just ordered men-u - Muscle Fiber Paste wich got small fibers so it give the hair some thickness

Cheers for the informative post.

I'd agree with Mr. Bastard about the dax. The red stuff is lethal, I'd be surprised if you're not tearing a few hairs out just by rubbing the stuff in.

I can't really give any advice on anything else. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on shampoo that superficially thickens individual hair strands? I don't want to get involved with toppik because in short, it doesn't seem worth it to me. I buzz my hair to a number 2 at the moment but I'm getting some regrowth on my regimen and I'm thinking of trying a 3 soon, so a good thickening shampoo (even marketed for women) would go a long way (I hope).

Well, ive used dax for many a years, and i believe its great stuff. Maybe theres a method to use or something - dont use too much and have it well spread in your hands first. Those problems you mention sound to me like those people have really over-did it. As i say, its a super holding gel/dex, afterall. As for any pastes i always find them messy and ridiculous to apply leaving your hair looking stupid. Perhaps, thats my misuse of them, though. I'll check out the L'anza one. Always open to improvement.

Secondly the middle of my hair has became so thin i cant really apply much / if any, dax anyway. This is why the hair spray has become so useful really.

As for pics, i hate taking them of my hair tbh - probably depress me. Im happy concealing right now lol.

That Muscle Fibre paste sounds good lol, but is there different colours of fibres to elect or what? Where did you order this from?

edit - i looked at those two gels u mentioned, only Renate - Strong Hold Glaze looks decent. Anything that can come out of a tube, for me, is pretty much useless. Maybe your hair is different than mine, but anything like that just makes my hair look thin and shitty (better with nothing).

Yeah the TRESemmé is very good (and available in a travel friendly 100ml bottle too), it has excellent hold but it does smell awful IMO...a real strong nail varnish remover type smell

This is another good hairspray with a much nicer smell and it adds a bit of volume. It doesn't leave the hair too wet looking either, which is a big no-no for thinning hair

I wouldn't say the hold is better than the TRESemme though

I have tryed the mucle fiber now, and it was not revelutionary. It was not possible to select colors as i noticed, was from a norwegian site so guess you cant order it from there :p

Cant say i noticed the fibres. It was just a decent wax. My hair was 1.4ish mm when i tryed it today.

Here is 3 pictures of men-u clay and renati doing its thing. lenght between 1 and 2 cm somewhere:

Unstyled, 1.3ish cm i think. Good picture to show how thin my hair is. Still a little wet it seems, not too long after a shower. But not much! Want to try toppik but once you start it whould suck to run out once and not being able to restock so i think i lay off...

Great thread, we need more like this (Sticky admins?)

A series of step by step posts on different styling techniques would be great to see here, heck, I'll do some make-up ones if you like ;)

The only thing I would say is about the TRESemmé products, they are generally not that good quality and something like Paul Mitchell's products will generally give better control, volume and value etc.

That being said, you can get TRESemmé products from the corner shop where Paul Mitchell is approved salon only and if you're happy with it then ignore what I's saying :)

Yeah tbh it doesn't really have to be TRESemme.

I've discovered than any decent hair spray can do the job.

This style with toppik. (Toppik pre-spray and a little post-spray) is a deadly mix.
