So I have posted a few updates on this forum but I understand that pictures speak a thousand words so, finally, here are my progress pics. Lighting is a little different but you quite clearly see progress. Please feel free to comment/ask questions as I would like to get a discussion going and find out about other peoples progress too.

October 2012: serious thinning in diffuse pattern across crown. Started to use finasteride once a day and minoxidil every evening.

Recent, Jan 2014: My hair has got darker overall (probably due to the minoxidil), have experienced solid regrowth. Refer to my previous posts for more info.

Overall I am happy with my results. I have recently began to shed a lot of hairs again though over past 2/3 months so I will either up my minoxidil application to twice a day or add nizoral shampoo.

Anybody worried about finasteride sides I have had no negative effects whatsoever.

I have also been researching RU58841 and like the sound of what I hear. As soon as my current treatments begin to loose their effectiveness I will definitely be taking a risk and adding this to my regimen! Anybody have any experience with this? It truly looks like the miracle drug we have been looking for and I am looking forward to seeing how it progresses over the next few years!

Hey man your hairs looking good! I'm on a similar regimen and was wondering..do you wash your hair in the morning after you apply the minoxidil ? Or do you let it stay on your head the next day?

minoxidil is an illusion. you want to keep your hair? get on the anti androgens quick!

Those are remarkable results. I'm going to have to do more reading about the frequency of finasteride side effects, or if there are any predictors.

Thanks, I was initially concerned and spoke to my GP who said he had been prescribing finasteride for quite a few years and had never heard of any long term implications (although I do understand this may be because relatively speaking it has only been around for a short space of time).

He did advise me that I would have to stop taking the medication for around 6 months if I wanted to try for a baby but I am a young guy and that is the least of my worries right now!

Admittedly speaking I am not an expert on the topic but I do think that the horror stories we hear about represent a small proportion of a much larger group that take the medication and seem to get on just fine (and dont go public/on forums to report negative sides).

The only issue I have is that I started to take both medications at the same time so cant definitely know which has been more effective, I dont want to risk giving one up to find out though!

Awesome results! I guess there's no way to tell which helped you more...the finasteride or the minoxidil.

brian, is it necessary to get off finasteride if you want to have a child?? i thought you could have babies while on finasteride.

I wouldn't want to give a definite answer because I am not sure. I am just relaying what my GP told me which is that finasteride does have a tendency to reduce sperm count, discontinuing and allowing up to six months without finasteride should allow things to go back to normal.

Again I am not certain of the science behind this but my GP is respected in his profession and I trust his opinion. He explained that he has prescribed his own family members finasteride for hair loss so he has looked closely at the effects of the medication.
