Guys,

Below are my scalp biopsy results. I had scalp extracted from the top middle part of my scalp.

I was wondering how definite a scalp biopsy is in determining male pattern baldness and whether you think that becayse they couldnt find anything, it could be a good thing??

Clinical History

Painful, itchy scalp, hair loss

Macroscopic Description:

The skin sections show an epidermis which is covered by a laminated stratum corneum. The vertical sections show a normal number of follicles. There is a telogen follicle present and scant superficial perivascular lymphocytic inflammation. PAS stains are negative for fungi.

The horizontal skin sections show a normal number of follicles. There are 15 follicles present, one of which is telogen. There is no significant perifollicular lymphocytic inflammation present.

Pathological Diagnosis

Scalp biopsy with normal number of follicles and non specific superficial perivascular lymphocytic inflammation.

The base of the hair loss is not evident within the sections. A telogen effluvium could still be the cause if the hair loss was diffuse.
