I'm a regular on the male section.

My 17 year old sisters hair has started to become noticeably thin over the past year. Looking back at photos of her as a child, from about 11-15 she had a very small thinning area the size of a small coin, not really noticeable at all. But now that she is 17, it is and the thinning area has got much larger and it really pisses me off because she is so young and whatever about me losing it beats me up inside seeing her like this. She acts like it doesn't effect her but I know it does.

I have sisters much older with the thickest hair possible but my mothers hair is slightly thinning, I put this down to her having cancer and months of chemotherapy a few years ago. I have an aunt who is really thin all over that in my opinion she'd be better off wearing a wig.

All my sister seems to be taking to fight it is some hairloss vitamin, which costs $60 a month, it just appears to be centrum rebranded essentially. I've told my mother to bring her to the doctor and my sister to go if she doesn't but she strongly believes these vitamin tablets will stop it. What could be causing it and what do you advise I do?

Thanks

hi spencer

you can visit us on heralopecia or tell her about the website.

she needs to see a doctor asap and get some blood tests, especially iron studies and thyroid as well as female and male hormones. the round spot could be also alopecia areata and she would need a biopsy to confirm that. also if she has been on birth control pills that could be a factor.
