I am about to start a new regimen and I wanted to get your thoughts and ask questions before I go ahead with it; I've studied this information quite a bit, but I'm just trying to confirm what I know and whatnot.
To give you a brief history of my hair loss, I noticed I was thinning about eighteen months ago in the Spring of 2002 when I was 18. I had some slight receding in the temples and some thinning in my crown. I immediately used Minoxidil and noticed results in as quick as about two months. My vertex was perfect and my temples appeared to have improved a bit as well (although I'm not 100% sure).
I was pretty ignorant at that point and thought that the problem was over. Not surprisingly, all of that hair gradually fell back out. At the time, I was taking Paxil for clinical depression and was informed that it can cause hair loss.
I quit taking Paxil in December of 2002 and begun using Minoxidil again. My hair was back to good shape by late January/February. I took the belief that the Paxil was causing my hairloss and so, once again, I stopped taking Minoxidil.
Once again, this was a dumb idea. My hair loss came back once again. I used Minoxidil until about May 2003 and then decided on the advice of my hairstylist to switch to this stuff:

After about three/four months of this stuff, I haven't seen any results and my hair loss is back to where it was a year ago when I believed that Paxil was to blame. I am ready to go back to Minoxidil because I am sure that it worked.
As it stands, I started thinning when I was 18 years old. I am 19 now and I will turn 20 in a few weeks.
My hair loss is not very bad by my own admission. There is thinning in my crown and some receding at my temples; however, my family hairline is genetically a bit receded anyways, so it's not really noticable to anyone because it isn't greatly different than my old hairline (as well as the fact that I've always parted my hair in the middle, so my temples are somewhat hidden). Still, I feel that it is too noticable and I want to correct it now and preserve what I've got while I can.
I am planning on starting the "Big 3" over Thanksgiving break from college. My hope is that I will respond as well to Minoxidil as I have in the past and that I will experience the same side effects (i.e. none whatsoever) and that I won't have any problems with Finasteride, either.
My questions:
1. I've only been thinning for less than two years...do I still stand a good chance to recover a significant portion of my temple hair and a good chance to improve my crown?
2. I used Minoxidil for all that time and never had any shedding problems...should I expect them with Propecia?
3. How common are shedding problems with Propecia (percentage wise)?
4. What vitamins should I take in order to help along the process?
5. Could my hairloss be related to dietary changes that I make when I entered university? My hair seems to be very good in the summer and winter break when I am home and seems to be worse when I am at university in the spring and fall.
I apologize for writing such a lengthy letter; I just thought that all of the information might assist you in answering my questions
Best,
Warren
