Hi. I'm 19 years old. Yesterday I told to my doctor that i want to use propecia because my hair is terrible right now. She want blood analysis to learn my testosteron level. In the end we learn that my testosterone level is low. My dermatologist direct me to an endocrin doctor. And he say I shouldn't take propecia. But like i said my hair is terrible right now and I'm so afraid. What should i do? Please help me. I'm so sorry for my terrible English. As you can see English is not my first language.

I'm surprised you're experiencing hair loss with low testosterone. Are you sure it's male pattern baldness and not tellogen eflluvium? What are your estrogen levels?

There is a specific reason that you were refereed to an endocrinologist. Unfortunately, you have to wait. Having your testosterone level checked doesn't necessarily mean that it was complete. If it wasn't, then your endocrinologist should do a full hormone panel (estradiol, progesterone, DHT, T4, T3, TSH, etc.). The only thing you really can do is to try and reschedule for a sooner date if your visit is a long time from now.

I'm talked with my endocrinologist today. He told me I should lose weight maybe that is the why my testosterone is low. But I'm going to be bald when i waiting for lose weight.

That's a strange answer that he gave you. He doesn't have to guess if he took all the necessary tests. If he insists that nothing else is wrong and that it is weight-related then he should give you a precise answer to why.

Don't do propecia until your endocrinologist gives you the ok to do so.
He is so callous about propecia. He will never let to take propecia maybe. And he say my hair is normal. Maybe when dry it can be look like normal. but when its wet I'm almost full bald!

Here my photos when my hair is wet

Your endocrinologist can eliminate possibilities and also find out a specific reason by starting with a full hormone panel since you already know that you have low testosterone.

If not you should go to dermatologist also if your endocrinologist doesn’t help you go to deferent one

Don’t focus on propecia fix your problem first

Do you mean that your father have thin hair

Do you have any relatives that are completely bald at the top ?

Also testesrone test tends to be inconsistent and your results is low for your age

As jaka said your doctor should order full hormonal panel to eliminate any other possible cause
Like thyroid problems can cause hair loose

And order recheck test after 2-3month to see if the problem still there

For your hair you can use Nizoral, monxdill and dermarolling
Until your problem is solve

My father is norwood 5 almost. Actually my two grandfathers have hair. And my uncles too. Yes my doctor say the same thing. After few months ago I will see my doctor. I'm using minoxidil and nizoral. But I read dermarolling can dangerously with minoxidil. Did you see my photos? Do you think I can be good without finasteride?

Hey man i looked at your pics from when your hair is wet and i don't see really any evidence of thinning. Let me put it this way, my hair looks way worse than yours wet but when dry id modestly say that i have a pretty good full head of hair, so your hair must be at least equal to if not better than mine when dry. If you want to check out my post and pics go to the thread titled "hair loss drugs and advice" a few below yours in this thread. With regards to your T levels, i would focus more on your quality of life rather than what a lab result tells you. Do you have sexual dysfunction? Prone to depression? Low self esteem? Testosterone can dictate all of these things but it isn't clear cut and dry. In other words you can have lower than normal t but have no symptoms at all. If this is the case, maybe propecia is an option. however, if you already have low t related problems at baseline, i would focus on losing weight and normalizing that first, THEN looking more into hair loss drugs. Its interesting because this whole male

I don't have any sexual dysfunction(i guess). I've been depressed for 4 years. And my self esteem is low for some reasons. So i understand this from your reply. I can take finasteride if I boost my testosteron to normal level?

Its kind of a double edged sword. Higher testosterone will lead to higher dht which is the hormone that causes baldness if you are susceptible. However, higher testosterone might help mitigate some of the androgen suppressing effects of hairloss drugs. There a lot of science to this that I'm not 100% on so id talk to someone more qualified.

That really looks more like thin hair than mbp. Are you sure you're balding? Women' hairs look almost like that when their hair is wet.
