I'll talk on behalf of my wife. She's 27. Since 4 weeks ago she's been telling me she's been losing excessive hair when she washes it and combs it. I've told her it's mental. Then a week or two her hair stylist told her she's losing excessive hair also. My wife has a habit since she was a teen that when she washes her hair, she places her normal shed hairs on the shower walls and it has usually been sparingly hairs of 50 to 100. Then last night she showed me what she meant. It looked like a ball of yarn!!!

She was recently taking these pills called Phenthermine to lose weight. Could that be the cause of the excessive shed??? Could it be the stress of our three kids (7,6 and 4) at home for the summer???

ANSWERS AND COMMENTS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

my mother also experienced some hairloss after she went on a pretty heavy diet, sorry I can't be of more help, I can only say that my mother experienced the shedding a month or two after ending the diet (which was a brief one: one or two months) and that the shedding ended and her hair is completely normal now...

formercurly,

It is not the phentermine but the weight loss regimen - hair thinning can definitely be a side effect of any crash or extreme dieting.

Even if she is lowering food intake, she should make sure to get lots of lean, healthy proteins, at least 30 grams per meal (about the amount of food that fits in the palm of her hand). Protein shakes are a great way to supplement if necessary. Also - vitamin/mineral supplements, especially a good multivitamin each day plus extra biotin (one of the b vitamins).

I am going through the same thing, feel free to PM me and I will be glad to share my experiences. My doctor says there will be regrowth, my stylist says no but the new growth will be healthier, so for now I am just looking for some cosmetic enhancement until I see whether I will need more drastic solutions for the long term.
