Hi everyone,

I am 23 years old and I suffer from ADHD. I was diagnosed about 6 months ago and I need the ADHD medications, because otherwise I can't get anything done.

I first started using the medicine Concerta which worked well. For the first time in my life I could sit down and complete a task from beginning to end without despairing because I couldn't focus.

But after two weeks or so, I noticed a lot of hair loss. Turns out that one of the side effects of such medication is hair loss.

To do something against it, I started taking Biotin, zinc, etc. And also started using Rogaine. It helped somewhat I guess, even if the hair density after the end of the shedding is now much lower than before.

So, I went to the doctor, and he prescribed me another medicine, called Vyvanse, since on their package insert hair loss wasn't listed as a side effect. Perfect, I thought and used it regularly. And when I realised after two weeks that I was losing hair again, it was too late. I stopped taking it, but for the next two weeks I not only lost everything I had "regained" before, but the hairline receded even more. Now I have some patches on my head that have much less hair than the rest of it. The company apparently decided to not mention this side effect.

So, I swichted to Ritalin SR in hopes that the hair loss would stop if I didn't use medication that was long lasting. But to no avail, I'm still losing hair, even if not as much as before.

I didn't really want to start taking Finasterid because of the severe possible side effects but after realising that I propably won't find medication to treat ADHD that doesn't make me lose my hair, I changed my mind.

I had read about the side effects of it, so I didn't want to start taking too much at the beginning. I took 0.25 for 5 days and have stopped now because the side effects started to worry me. But I had read that the side effects subside after a while, so my question is if I should pick it up again or not. If I take it for a while, do the sideffects go away? And if yes, how long does it usually take?

-I had slight pain in the chest
-Lower libido
-Genitals seem to be smaller than before
-Orgams feel different than before
-Slight aching in the testicals
-Unable to focus mentally: I need to be able to study at the moment and I can't do that with such a side effect. But it's really only there for the first couple of hours after I took the medicine. So, I thought about taking it before going to bed, so that it won't bother me when I need to study during the day. Good or bad idea?

Also what is the best way to start and to stop taking Finasterid? Is it better to start with low dosages like 0.25mg like I did or to really take a pill a day? I already had this unablness to focus with 0.25, I am not sure if I could take higher dosages of this.

I took it for 5 days and stopped 4 days ago. And all of the side effects are gone at the moment, except for the lower libido.

Does anybody have experience with such a situation? Because I'm not sure if Finasterid even help me with hair loss caused by medication? I don't want to take Finasterid if the hair loss is going to continue anyhow because the cause of the hair loss is a different one than what Finasterid addresses.

Thank you very much for your help!
