I just turned 23 on August and have been experiencing hair loss possibly for 1 or 2 years. Majority of the hair loss I see are from pillows, during shampoo, and after hair drying/styling. The increase of hair loss on these areas have been elevated overtime. Maybe around 60-100 hairs lost during these activities added together. The shampoos I used were Pert Plus, Herbal Essence, and Pantine Pro V. However, using Pert plus had noticeabaly less hair loss compare to the other two brand.

My question is, what kind of Shampoo is recommended? Should I proceed to use a Nizoral type shampoo? What percentage of Nizoral should i try first without going over board? Is Nizoral a prescription only shampoo? What brand contains Nizoral that can be bought over the counter? My wife told me not to shampoo my hair everday as hair and scalp's immunity starts to decrease and start loosing hair. Is this true? She has great long hair btw and she only shampoo 2-3 times a week. Also, should i try out propecia or other oral medications?

Oh if it helps, Im about 30-40 pounds overweight, I try to exercise when I can, I sometimes get tingling and itching on my scalp, and I use lots of hair spray, wax to style my hair. The status of my hair is thinning.

Hope you guys can help me out, I just registered in this forum.

Thanks.

If you're in the states, Nizoral 1% is over the counter (2% requires a prescription) and you can get it at just about any grocery store. Many people also add T/Gel or T/Sal to their regimen to help with itching and scalp irritation.

If you're losing your hair due to male patterned baldness, changing your hair washing cycles won't have a major effect. Genetics and DHT damaging your hair follicles are the cause. Your wife having a great head of hair and shampooing less often doesn't prove that it'll be good for *you*.

Most hair loss in males is due to genetics, but you might want to see a doctor about this (especially if you're considering going on Propecia/Proscar). However, finding a qualified doctor on hair loss is not as easy as it sounds....

Also, read the information elsewhere on this site. Everything I've told you is answered in an FAQ here.

People who are going bald seem to have greasier hair with Sebum buildup therefore we need to clean our hair more often like once a day. I prefer the 2% nizoral over the 1% and it can be purchased at hairlossproducts.com for $17 well worth it. Try it for three months and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be seeking professional help from a doctor then. But before that, I had just bought Nizoral 1% OTC and had MAJOR shedding using the shampoo last night. This is the first time i used Nizoral, and comparing to ordinary shampoo, the difference were considerably large. First lathe and ran my hand through it gave about 20 hairs on my hand.

Is this normal?

Thanks.

You may have just been due up for a shed. Nizoral isn't a wonder shampoo and it's not going to dramatically alter your head after one use.

Does people experience shedding on the first couple uses? I have tested using Nizroal again. This time, I had rinse my hair only with water thoroughly and experience medium volume in shedding. I made sure no further shed appears. Then, I used Nizoral and shedding starts again and around 50-80 hair are lost. Any suggestions? Thanks.
