Hello. I've been shedding lots of hair for 5 months. I thought it was a minoxidil shedding, but I discovered yesterday it wasn't a minoxidil shed, it is low ferritin. I'm at 21 ng/dl, and what I've read is that these levels are really bad for the hair. Went to the doctor to see if he prescribes me iron supplement, and he didn't because 'I haven't developed anemia yet'. Is there any way to stop the telogen effluvium that is making me bald??

You seen a dermatologist?

Yes, I've been taking medication for 1 year now. I went like 3 weeks ago to my trichologist and he told me all my hair is very thick. I'm losing lot of ground but my hair is not miniaturized, so it has something to be with ferritin 100% sure, cause when i had 61ng/ml of ferritin, my hair was perfect (with hair medication ofc).

Interesting thread! What is the best way to supplement iron?
I guess you can buy iron supplements without medical supervision and take your own risks. My GP didn't prescribe me the iron supplements. Fortunately, I talked with my trichologist yesterday and he prescribed me the iron supplement.

I currently have lower end ferritin levels 69ug/L (Range 30 - 400). I've always took a multivitamin that included iron but my levels are still low.
What i didn't know is that if it contained calcium the iron wont absorb optimally. As of today what i'm doing is taking a multivitamin without iron and taking a iron supplement with vitamin c and then taking it with a non calcium containing meal.

But 69 ug/L isn't low. That has always been my highest amount of ferritin. With that number, you shouldn't have any symptom and hair should be in a great shape.

I'm just trying to boost mine for fatigue issues but the protocol would still apply to you.

How do you know your fatigue is due to ferritin level and not caused by another stuff?
