hi there. i'm new to this forum so i'd really appreciate some advice, counsel, consolation, etc. i'd been using rogaine extra for a year or so, didn't really notice any improvement. decided to switch to propecia and have been on it for about 5 months. in my 5th month, i started noticing that my hair loss had become much worse - generally worsening diffuse thinning including my hairline (which wasn't that much of a problem before). what on earth is happening? should i stick with propecia? switch back to rogaine? use both?

You should use both. minoxidil did a lot by maintaining your hair. These hairs you maintained started to fall out when you were stopping minoxidil. Good Luck!

minoxidil really doesn't maintain hair. what happens is minoxidil provides an offset of growth and when your hair loss gets more severe you start losing more hair than minoxidil can conceal with its regrowth.

thanks. i've read elsewhere on this forum that i may be "shedding". is this normal? also, should i continue with propecia for a while until i'm sure that it works before adding rogaine?

Huh??? minoxidil maintained hair????? where the hell did u hear that from?? i'll accept that when u stop taking minoxidil, the hairs that minoxidil REGREW (and not maintaned) will fall off, but minoxidil does nothing for slowing or stopping hair loss.
