Hello, I'm new here. My name is Robert and I'm 40 years old. Here is a brief
summary of my story:

At around age 37 I noticed an increase in hair thinning on the crown of my
head. The thin area is about 2 inches long and 2 inches high on my crown.
Technically, it is NOT a "bald spot" because there is still hair on my crown; it is
just very thin and noticeable to the point where people stare. :(

At age 38, I decided to finally buzz my hair with the 1/2 clippers. I would
buzz it every week, hoping that it would hide my "thin spot". I did this
every week for about 2 years.

Now that I'm 40, I have decided that I want to give hair loss chemicals a chance.
I don't expect to regrow all of my hair - I'm just hoping that my hair will grow
thicker on top just to cover up the "thin spot" on my head.
So....four months ago I started the following regimen:

REGIMEN: (for the past 4 months up to the present)

* 10,000 mcg Biotin, one per day. (Inspired by Michael Peak on YouTube)
* Regenepure DR/NT shampoo
* Lipogaine Big 3 shampoo
* Lipogaine 5%minoxidil (no azelaic acid)
* Kirkland 5% minoxidil
* Rogain 5% minoxidil foam
* Nizoral %1 ketaconazole shampoo
* Lasergain XL with 21 lasers (every other day for at least 15 minutes)
* Lots of leafy greens and vegetables
* Increased water consumption
* Decreased sugar consumption

I wash my hair 5 days per week before work, choosing any of the shampoos
listed above. Once my hair is dry, I then apply any minoxidil on my
scalp before work. I again apply minoxidil at bedtime.

BTW, I'm not ready to try Finasteride or Dutasteride at this point. I just
want to continue the regimen above and see what results I get.

After 4 months of using biotin, minoxidil, and ketaconazole shampoos,
I have noticed new hair growing on parts of my body where it has NEVER
grown before! I've got new hair all over the back of my hands, knuckles,
wrists, inner forearms, and ear lobes.

As for the crown of my head, I'm not sure if I'm getting results because
I didn't photograph my head before starting the treatment. I also don't
look at my crown every day. But, I have noticed that there is significantly
LESS hair loss. Now I only see 3 or 4 fallen hairs on my hand during showers.
Also, my barber made the statement that I have "thick hair", which really
shocked me.

Also, I have noticed that my dandruff problem is gone! In the past my scalp
was very itchy. If I scratched my scalp I would often get lots of "white gunk"
lodged in my fingernails, along with fallen hair. I probably scratched off most of
my hair because I was always scratching my itchy crown. This problem seems
to be fixed now. I just hope I can get a little more hairs to come back on my
crown.

Question: What do you think is causing new hairs to grow on my
ear lobes and inner wrists? I have never had hair in those areas before.
Is it the biotin? I'm pretty sure I didn't get minoxidil splashed equally on both
inner wrists and both earlobes, so I'm curious what caused that?

Question: Do you think I have a good chance to cover up the thin
area on my crown with the above regimen? I don't expect full recovery, I just
want it cover it up more.

Thank you!

Happy to hear you are having success.

To answer your questions. I would say you are probably getting minoxidil on your ears and inner wrists some how. Possibly you aren't washing your hands well enough after applying minoxidil. As far as hair growth on your ears, keep in mind that minoxidil can drip down your face as you shower. What I do is wash my face twice to limit my exposure to minoxidil.

Recovery. Yes it is possible, but like many will say minoxidil is usually just a band aid fix. You may see immediate results but will eventually end up losing ground. We all want to avoid finasteride, but unfortunately it is one of the few things that really works.

Nice regimen, I expect you'll see real regrowth even without finasteride. I'm wondering what norwood you are currently?
As rediculous as it may sound have you considered wearing a hair cover after applying minoxidil to stop at leaking down your face. I wonder how some guys on these forums can commit so much dedication to applying minoxidil it seems like a pain.

I would say that I'm a Norwood 3V. My thin crown measures at 2 inches x 2 inches.
I seem to have lots of follicles or hairs on top, but because I have more hair on my
sides, back, and front, the disparity causes my top crown to look like a weird
"bald spot". I prefer to call it a "thin spot" because it is not bald down to the skin level.
I noticed that people stared it at a lot in the past, but not so much once I started
buzzing my hair.

I usually dab minoxidil on my head with a dropper, and then massage it into
my scalp with one finger, where it dries off after 30 minutes or so. It doesn't
seem to be dripping down my face because no hair is growing on my face.
But ya, I have been totally committed for 4 months straight. I apply it
once before work and once before bed. I want to continue this regimen for
one year and see what results I get. 8)

I typically use a dropper to apply minoxidil on my scalp, and I only use one finger
(my middle birdie finger) to rub it over my scalp. I then thoroughly wash my
middle finger with soap.

When I shower, I lean my head forward and down, and let the minoxidil wash off
my head. I don't know if the minoxidil is dripping on my ears and wrists. What is
weird is that hair is growing equally thick on my ear lobes and inner wrists and
the back of my hands. Each body part is like a mirror image, so the minoxidil
would have to be falling equally on top of each ear lobe, etc....
