An italian tv transmission invited a pair of researchers
for explaining pfs. They stated that

"It's very difficult to understand this group of symptoms and what is causing them. When we tested hormones, on the contrary of that which I would have expected, the testosterone levels were in range. However, there is a difference that is statistically significant regarding a hormonal hypothesis that we are looking at. There's a molecular signal that reveals that these subjects [PFS sufferers] are different from normal people, and from hypogonadal individuals."

just seen it yesterday

sorry i can't provide utube link, but if u trust me this is the most imp excerpt

Thats interesting.. I was interested in hearing how this study went, but all the pages I found were in italian. Do you know how many test subjects they have?

Where did you get this text, and have they released any more information?

I was following the ISHRS "finasteride task force" for a while, but they haven't gotten anywhere with their studies:

http://www.ishrs.org/articles/finasteri ... cement.htm

They didn't even announce anything at the anual hair loss meeting in Alaska. Its been a long time with no real useful information, it sounds like these Italians are really trying to get to the bottom with it by studying actual PFS patients. I'm hopeful that they get some answers.

So basically they are genetically predispositioned to have PFS after taking finasteride. Luckily, that is a very, very, very minor subset of the population that also tends to be pretty paranoid in general. Far less than 1% of finasteride users.

wuffer i don't remember but sure not many

as this is a rare condition, patients are few

i saw the report in italian, as far as i remember that excerpt is the most important.

studies takes longer before being published

@ grayman

sure is a rare condition,
but it's always a russian roulette, maybe played with 100 revolver with only one bullett for all
everyday u roll and pull a trigger ... for long time

Propecia, I disagree with your analogy about Russian roulette. According to the excerpt you posted, people with PFS have a predisposition (genetic or otherwise) that causes these symptoms while taking and after stopping the medication. This would mean that if a person even took 1 finasteride pill, they could set themselves up for persistent problems because the drug caused something to 'break'.

This would mean that if a guy did not have this predisposition, he could take as much of the drug for as long as he wanted without worry of persistent problems (though he may suffer side effects while taking the medication).

I haven't seen anything that suggests the length of exposure has anything to do with the likelihood of persistent symptoms. I've seen many reports of people experiencing persistent problems after a short exposure, and just as many with people who didn't have problems for years.

Anyway, when you hear more, be sure to post. As I said, it's great that a systematic, scientific and analytical approach is being taken to get to the bottom of this.

wuff, i disagree

first u don't know if you r predisposed or not
and also if u r predisposed, the excerp. didn't say nothing about the minimum amount of the drug for permanent problem. this could also vary from predisposed people.
maybe u could take happily finasteride for long time before develop pfs
in this terms it is a roulette

surely multiple factors play a role.

but better wait before speculate, probably studies will take long time .....

Good point, right now it's all conjecture.. I guess we can argue all day about what we think is right or wrong, but in the end i'm betting all theories will be blown out of the water, ours included.

Even though I dont suffer from side effects or PFS or anything, i'm still taking the stuff daily, and want to know as much as I can about it. I'm sure many others feel the same way.

sure

since i suffer light but persistent sides, my judgement is little biased.
i always think that if in the past some has told me about the remotepossibility
of persistent prob i would never have taken fina.

but who knows, maybe in my twenties if i was experiencing no side and having great hair result probably i would taken it at same
