Acromegaly patients sometimes develop balding so high GH and high IGF-1 levels aren't always good.

Unexpectedly, GH-treated microdissected human female scalp HFs showed premature catagen induction, most probably mediated via the upregulation of the potent catagen-inducting growth factor, TGF-β2 [23]. Even though IGF-1 expression in the outer root sheath keratinocyte was also upregulated, as expected, the overall increase of TGF-β2 expression in response to GH treatment may have been dominant over IGF-1, resulting in the observed growth inhibition in female HFs.

Now is where it gets interesting from one of the comments I followed about some guy putting vitamin c powder in his shampoo.

Which after searching lead me to this thread:

He put 1/4 teaspoon of vitamin c(which is around 1 gram from a search result) into 39 oz of Tressless shampoo. He must have done some research because vitamin c is not very stable in solution. "For some reason" he aimed for a 3.5 PH. Could he have read this prior to deciding the PH?

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is most stable in solution at a slightly acidic pH, around , meaning its degradation rate is lowest at this pH level; as the pH increases towards neutral or alkaline, the stability of vitamin C significantly decreases, making it more prone to breakdown.

Key points about vitamin C stability and pH:

4) senescent cells cannot repair themselves like cancer cells and while a normal cell may survive thru hormesis the senescent cell will not survive. So vitamin c was acting like a senolytic agent at the PH he used. We don't need to wipe out every senescent cell either as a properly functioning immune system will attempt to keep up. The goal really is to eliminate some to eliminate the inflammation from senescent cells(SASPs) which IMO provide so much background inflammation(chronic) that the hair follicle is confused and doesn't pick up the NORMAL(acute) inflammation needed to initiate anagen.

5) he was also microneedling which also raises IGF-1 levels. So, he had 2 different angles raising IGF-1 thru microneedling and IGF-1.

6) he was not the first one to figure out to put ascorbates in shampoos..

He changed the PH to more towards neutral and got worse results it sounds like on his wife.

So I raised the pH in the new shampoo mixture to just under 5.0 pH.

She had been shedding heavily for the past 2 years, and I was eager to help her. She reluctantly tried it and although the results weren't as impressive as mine immediately, she did eventually see significant reduction in hair loss over the next 2.5 weeks to the point where she sees anywhere from 20 strands or none at all on her comb after a shower.

Hi. I have read a lot of studies related to IGF-1 and hair growth. There are a lot of contradictions, some studies talk about induction of anagen, others on the contrary show hair follicle apoptosis when IGF-1 is added.

I know there are hair growth lotions on the market containing GF-1 that are not popular because they are useless.
This must be a very complex regulatory process, as IGF-1 can rise and fall at certain times, thus controlling gene transcription.
This regulatory process is difficult to replicate by injecting IGF-1 into the scalp.

I am currently on a course of injections (subcutaneously in the abdominal area) of IGF-1 LR3 - 20mcg and BPC 157 - 600mcg per day. I will let you know if this has any effect on hair growth.

Here is a well written article about IGF-1 and the part I like is about his discussion of hormesis which IMO is the universal pathway to hair growth. Which involves reordering the mitochondria to a more fused version which also causes stem cells to divide symmetrically and not asymmetrically which would exhaust stem cell populations. I can only generalize from a satellite view because the more we zoom in on the cell pathways the more complicated it gets. But basically from what I understand hormesis promotes mito-fusion(more ATP, less ROS).

If we find IGF-1 levels raised by any chemical or intervention then it is probably a biomarker of hormesis and cell repair has been activated. IGF-1 levels are also raised with microneedling and like the 2nd paper demonstrated post-irradiation treatment.

There are some other lifestyle factors that can also boost the expression of stress resistant genes without the downsides to low levels of growth hormone and IGF-1.

This is called hormesis. Hormesis refers to the beneficial effects of a treatment that at a higher intensity is harmful. In one form of hormesis, sublethal exposure to stressors induces a response that results in stress resistance. The principle of stress-response hormesis is increasingly finding application in studies of aging, where hormetic increases in life span have been seen in several animal models. The “hermetic effect” is actually the mechanism of action of many catechins and polyphenols that are often mislabeled as antioxidants.

Catechins and polyphenols are found in: Green tea, Blueberries and other purple-pigmented fruits/vegetables, Dark Chocolate, Wine, Turmeric. Catechins and polyphenols on their own have no ability to “scavenge “free” radicals like classic anti-oxidants such as vitamins C and E. Rather, they are a little toxic to our cells and thus induce a “hormetic response” by increasing the expression of anti-oxidant genes, and this is why they are put into the category of anti-oxidants. The next illustration shows the benefits of Hormesis. Again, the key here is stress resistance genes.

Another paper shows IGF-1 is used for DNA repair(figure 5). This damage to the DNA could have been happening from the low PH of the shampoo or vitamin C is pro-oxidant at higher dosages.

I wanted to share the phenomenon of Andre the Giant, also known as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.”
His case is interesting because he had a congenital pathology. He was 220 cm tall, which was the result of gigantism caused by extremely high levels of growth hormone. It was bad for his health, but look how gorgeous his hair was.

Robert Wadlow's extreme height was caused by an abnormally high level of growth hormone produced by a tumor on his pituitary gland, a condition known as "gigantism" which resulted in excessive bone growth throughout his life; essentially, his body produced too much growth hormone due to the enlarged pituitary gland, leading to his remarkable stature.

There was a balding guy in this video, it happens but not likely.
I can't give the direct link for some reason but search youtube for:

There were a few that were balding but most were not in this video even into old age.
