Hi everyone,
I am 21 and I am really starting to tell that I am losing my hair. On the norwood scale I would say that I am a 3V. I have been doing some research, and I am trying to figure out what the best products would be for me to stop my hairloss and regrow hair. I have heard a lot about this new product dutasteride, but I know that it hasnt been approved for the treatment of hairloss, but can be obtained with an off-prescription for something else. Is this a good choice, or does it have bad side effects like increased shedding. Is propecia a good choice? Also for growth stimulators, what would be the best choice of minoxidol. I have read about Dr. Lee's formula xanadrox, but I have read that this can have side effects with the azelaic acid, but I am not sure. Would Nizoral be a good choice also? And the last thing, how bad is shedding really??? That is what is really starting to scare the hell out of me, because of the horror stories I have heard. Does this shedding occur in almost everyone who takes these treatments. I would just like everyones opinion on what they think I should do, and what I should take to get the best results. Sorry for the long message, but I am just too young for this crap. Thanks guys

Whoa! If you're a 3V, you're not _just_ starting to lose your hair buddy!

Get on finasteride (Propecia/Proscar/Finpecia/etc.), minoxidil (Rogaine/Regaine/etc.), and Nizoral shampoo (rotate with T-Gel).

Capisci?

hey

Yea,
I started to lose my hair at about 18 or 19, but I am just now doing something about it because I am a dumbass. I meant that it is really starting to become apparent now that I am 21. I could cover it up before, but not anymore. and what about the shedding? I am still really curious about that?

1)Finasteride (Propecia/Proscar/Fincar/Finast) to help stop further loss.
2)Minoxidil 5% (Roganie, Kirkland. Dr. Lee's) best growth stimulant avail.
3)Nizoral 2% - best shampoo for hairloss.

In your position, i think you should start here, give this regimen 6 months then reassess.

Possible additions: spironolactone 2% & Foligen.

hey

So you would say no to that xanadrox stuff that dr. lee makes and to the dutastride? the xanadrox has that azealic acid, and I dont really know a whole lot about it. I here the dutastrides suppose to be good, but too many side effects.

stay away from duta, it is jam packed full of side effects. and xandrox is basically just expensive minoxidil, atleast the 5% version (azeaic acid had little proof it works to inhibit dht).

21 - not too young. It's moderate for the young male pattern baldness sufferer. Sucks huh?

I've never had a shed. Frankly, I think they're exaggerated for the most part. That doesn't mean that they don't happen, I just don't believe people who claim "I've lost 80% of my density!" We've all been there, I can relate to being a Norwood 2 and feeling like a Norwood 7.

Finasteride is a better choice than Dutasteride for DHT inhibition. Duta, in reality, is not significantly more effective than Fina as to warrant its use.

Minoxidil 5% is currently the best stimulant around, yes.

I suggest getting some Nizoral and either T-Gel or T/SAL. Emulate the Propecia trials as closely as possible.

You're lucky. I didn't realize I was a dumbass until well into my 30's.

Holy sh*t dude you want to head right to Avodart (Duta) that could wreck your hormones for life, much more powerful than Fina. Said to supress about 90% of DHT. Consider something else.

At your age I would probably stay away from internal DHT inhibators, your a bit young to start messing with your hormones. I suggest seeing a Derm to get the real scoop. Definately start with 5% minoxidil and nizoral. Add spironolactone or a topical DHT inhibitor and see how that works.

If all fails then consider Fina. Remember most people get off Fina after 5 years so stretch the starting point back as far a possible. Then again some do real well on it with no sides.

back again

Do you guys have any suggestions about my eating and health habits? I use to be an exercise freak, even though my eating habits have always sucked, but within the last year and a half all I do is eat fast food everyday, and I havent worked out at all. I am 21 and going to school and working almost full time, so I have just gotten lazy when it comes to other stuff. Could malnutrition help in me losing my hair? I also have slightly high colestoral and blood pressure. Should I consider multivitamins to get the healthy stuff in my body. These may be stupid questions, but I will take all the advice I can get. Thanks for all the help guys.
