Hi all,

As you can see Im a newbiew here. Great site btw. Well I'm a 19 year-old male with thinning hair, now.

My family history: my dad's side is full of bald men, uncles and grandfather. My dad noticed his hair loss at age 25, so did the rest of them. But my mom's side, all my uncles have hair, older being 55 yrs old, my grandfather being bald since my mom can remember.

Well at early age of 18 I started to notice I didn't have the same thick hair I use to when I was 16. At the time I was using some nasty stuff called Sportin Wave to comb my hair. Thinking that that was the cause of some hair loss I decided to drop it for some gel. I gave it some time and noticed that I was still losing some hair becoming more noticeable to me of the thinning. So I decided to pick up Revivogen. I used from Feb. to June did notice less hair left all around. I recently picked it up on July after a month of not using it. But now that I look in the mirror it looks like I'll be bald in a couple of months. I mean you can clearly see my scalp in the top front part of my scalp. The back top half looks okay. Now I'm thinking of dropping Revivogen and go without nothing for at least 3-4 months just to see if some hair grows back, and turns out Revivogen was the cause of worsen thinning. Then again I kind of freaked out at first, so I did puchaded the product instead of going to a doctor.

I have several questions for you all.

1. Do males of early ages of 18 and up have hair loss? I mean isn't too soon? My oldest brother (21) dosen't have any hair loss, just me :(

2. Can Revivogen cause even worse hair loss?

3. Should I go see a doctor now?

4. Should I stop taking anything and see what turns out?

Thanks to all.

GrassPuppet,

I am going to be curt since you haven't done your research. You're going to go bald. Live with it.

In the meantime, go on finasteride (Propecia), minoxidil (Rogaine), and a mild shampoo like T-Gel or Nizoral. You can get all this stuff online without a prescription -- you can get the shampoos at any Wal-Mart or pharmacy.

You don't need to see a doctor. People have been balding since the age of 16 here. For me personally, 18. Life's a b**ch, then you die. In the meantime, try to grow some hair as mentioned above.

To answer your questions:

1. Men can experience male pattern baldness at 19.

2. It is highly unlikely revivogen caused any permanent hairloss. Any hairloss drug that does work also has the ability to cause shedding.

3. As for seeing a doctor.....why not?

4. Definetly do NOT do the wait and see approach.....time is critical.

My advice when you know for sure you have male pattern baldness is to take propecia and nizoral.

if you see your hairloss forming in a pattern (such as a U shape) then you know it's male pattern baldness, but you can have bloodwork done just incase.

im 19 and i have male pattern baldness, and it's not such a bad thing to live with if you take the proper steps. my suggestion is to go to a dermatologist, get a prescription for propecia, and use that

use nizoral to help conceal and don't bother with minoxidil unless you have a hairline you need to regrow, in that case, just use minoxidil on your hairline.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you dude, same age, older brother with no loss, half the family has all their hair etc. etc.

I noticed I was losing hair at 17, didn't quite accept it until 18, started seriously combatting it a couple of months ago. I can personally attest that Minoxidil and Folligen definitely do their job, and do it well. I'll probably be starting Finasteride soon also (though I'm somewhat apprehensive).

drinkrum gave you some rock solid advice up there, basically ditto to what he said. You have to accept that you're going bald, then just do whatever you can about it and then forget about it. Get yourself on the 'big 3', add in some Folligen and Emu Oil/Aloe Gel...and read How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie.

best of luck!

Luther, Grass Puppet,

I would not be apprehensive about Finasteride. Yes there is a small risk but there is a risk with every medication you take. I would say that a 1mg dose has a less risk of side effects than many other medications.

If you ARE truly worried, start with a .5mg does and move up to 1 if you dont see any results or side effects. Realize however, that fina's proven effectiveness is at 1mg.

Drinkrum: Thanks for being curt.

Luther: You're right, we're in the same boat. What is Folligen? and that other stuff you mentioned?

Well, I'm fanally relaxed and accepted it. And yes, I do have a U-shape in the front top part of my head, I mean I can see my scalp. My next step is to go to my doctor and get a prescription for Propecia. I figured no guts, no glory, right? I will also add Minoxidil just to do some slight regrowth. What is best/difference between Nizoral and the T-gel stuff? Oh, and what is the difference between 2% and 5% Minoxidil? Which is recommended? I hope I get some positive results, by at least keeping the hair I have.

Thank you all.

just for some reference on finasteride for those who are afraid to take it:

12344321: Lol... thanks I really needed a laugh.

Well, I hope I don't have any side effects. You give me hope on that matter. How old are you anyway? and how long have you been on finasteride.? Any positive results yet?

Thanks to all who have taken the time to read and respond to my posts.

im 19. Norwood 2.5

been receding since 15, but first noticed hairs falling out about a year ago from this day.

anyways, i started taking finasteride in february, so a little over 7 months ive been on it.

I didnt notice any change in anything for the first 4 or 5 months. Hair kept falling out in same steady rate.

About 2 months ago, i started to lose ALOT more hair. I can pull hairs out any time i want now and as many times as i want. Its scary. It could be a shed, but it could be me just naturally increasing my hair loss. I have a non ident twin brother, and he can pull handfuls out of his head at a time. he could since he was 16. What scares me is that he was fully developed at 15. Im 19 and noticing (within the last 2 months, when hair loss started to accelerate) that my facial hair is finally starting to grow in.

My dilema: am i shedding or just following in the footsteps of my brother

Certainly use Minoxidil, certainly use Nizoral. If you don't want to use finast, try spironolactone instead...
