Hi,

I've recently noticed a loss of hair density. It doesn't look like a gradual loss either, one day, after a shower, I noticed that I could see a significant amount of my scalp when looking in the mirror. It seems to have come on within in about 1.5 month too, cuz when I went to get my hair, my usual stylist also noticed a bit (tho only after my wife told him about it). I've never had very dense hair, so my scalp was always somewhat visitble, so when I asked my wife, she didn't think it was any different. I'm convinced otherwise, however.

The thing is, lately I've been on the Atkins diet, and drank a lot of diet pepsi (w/ Aspartame, before I knew any better), all of which have reported hairloss in some people. I've also started on flovent (to prevent asthma) which is a steroid, so maybe that could be a cause too.

Anyhow, I don't really loose much hair during the day (like maybe 2-3, that I notice), even if I comb my hair. The shower, however, is a different story. I'd lookse between 20-50 hairs in the shower (that I could count anyhow), but that's always been the case, nothing new, and my hair grows very fast, more like 1.5-2 inches a month or so. My wife looses more in the shower than I. I keep my hair pretty long, btw.

Also, I don't notice much receeding, just seem to see more scalp in the frontal top region. I've made an appoint ment to see my doctor, and maybe get a referral to see a dermo. Anyhow, in the mean time, I figure I start some sort of treatment for male pattern baldness, just in case. My father is pretty bald (he's 66, I'm 27), but when I spoke to him, he said he didn't notice any thinning until he was 35. I went and bought Nizoral shampoo from CVS yesterday, but haven't started it yet, I was afraid it may do more harm than good, esp when it said u shouldn't use it for more than a month or something. I'm also considering ordering Revivogen.

Anyhow, I was hoping people here could give me some advice on what to do.

PS. I was thinking about giving rogaine a try (minoxidil 2%??), but the box said it's only for Vertex balding, which I don't have. Can I use it on the front?

TIA, and really sorry for the long post.

Here is what I would start with:

Nizoral - A must... might help block some evil DHT
Finasteride - A must - as you are only slightly thinning and this has a good chance of maintaining what you have with some slight regrowth.

Optional:
Folligen - Will promote a healthy scalp and hair follicles, may premote regrowth

At this point avoid minoxidil, spironolactone, etc, because you are in the early stages and you can add that for a boost if the above regimen doesn't prove effective.

Thanks for such a quick response. I'll take your advice and start on the Nizoral. Do I use that daily, or the suggest 3-4 times a week? All the rest of the time, just use any shampoo?

Also, I forgot to mention that I've been trying out Nu-Hair pills for men for about 1.5 weeks now. After reading what people said on the forum, I may drop it. I'm aware of the Chinese urbs in it, since I'm chinese, and I believe many chinese people take it. Tho it does contain other ingredients.

Anyhow, I'll see about where to order the Folligen.

I can feel this getting quite expensive...

Thanx again!
