Hello everyone.

I'm Matt, 37 and am after advice about the state of my barnet! I was lucky enough to have had real thick hair when i was younger and was always told i'd never need to worry about going bald. My Dad had good hair that naturally thinned and is still pretty thick now he's 65. Not sure if this is relevant as i don't really know if the 'side of the family' thing is a myth?

Anyway, i hate to say i smoked. A light smoker, but a smoker none the less. i noticed into my 30's a thinning of the hair but it was never too bad until recently when going through a traumatic episode that sent me stressing real bad for a couple of months... This also led me to smoking a lot more heavily. I noticed from one day to the next the dramatic thinning and loss of my hair, literally day to day... They say stress can cause your hair to stop growing/go into a rest phase for a good few months... Either that or the episode sped up male pattern baldness... I'm just not sure! Anyway, i've mentioned it to people who are saying it's just stress, it'll grow back... Back can this be the case? Is there anyone who can put me straight?

The hair has thinned all over, not just one place... I'm doing the 'hair pull test' in which i pull about 4 hairs that have a little black/white bulb attached if that means anything?

I think i'm going to see a specialist to check it out, but was wondering if anyone had/has experience of a similar thing, or advice on what i can do to check out what may be happening?

If this is too vague, please let me know and how i can help explain a bit more in depth.

Thankyou for reading this and helping if you can

Matt

hi I am no expert but as far as I know, that black/white bulb thingy at the end of your hair means nothing. If your hair loss was caused by extreme stress, it would grow back once you remove yourself from stressful situations or events and try to live a healthy life. A picture or two will be helpful to determine what's going on with your hair though.
