Wanted to try it a few times, would be a high class look if it works + add an illusion of density to the midscalp like you said
id do it like this (a bit shorter without the hair ring)
but styling it back would not only display his hairlinr but add density to his weaker regions but maybe he is lazy or maybe product doesnt work well with transplanted hair idk
