6 months on minoxidil and very happy. Yet quite certain finasteride is causing sides: anxiety and depression... maybe not as I use SSRI medication as well.

That said how long will the minoxidil results last with no finasteride back-up?

Thank you

Quit anti depressants and see if your mood improves if not then its finasteride.

Yeah...it's not the antidepressant... I know it's the finasteride...I'll.try topical.

How long can I keep gains on just minoxidil? I'm happy with gains

Well this is good news. I'll try finasteride again after a break this may not be related or topical finasteride may work.

In theory as long as I'm maintaining on minoxidil there is no certain need to be on finasteride correct?

You're on dutasteride are you not? Work better for you?

Do I have any other options besides finasteride?

I cant tolerate finasteride thats why im on dutasteride the only dht blocker i can tolerate and im thankful for that. I Read about a guy on minoxidill for 15 years and he maintained. But hes a minority. Eventually it didnt work as good anymore.

Yes I thought I saw you say that in.anothet post. What is your daily dose? Is there a chance it'll be an option for me in terms of mental health...?

Is that unusual that someone cannot tolerate finasteride but does fine on Dutasteride? Figured dute is much harsher....

Thank you friend. I'm 44...even a few years would be good....

If you don't have aggressive loss and are balding at a snail's pace, minoxidil will seem like its working long term but the truth is after a few years it seems to decline in effectiveness without a DHT blocker like finasteride.

Thank you Doctor. Im using topical finasteride now too.

The minoxidil was clearly working around 6 and 1/2 month mark....then I started finasteride and seemingly within days, it had thinned out again (my crown) is that even possible??

finasteride does not work that fast. Something else is causing that. My hair looks thicker when shorter and thinner when longer so it can vary. The only way you can prove it is to take a photo and compare it in about 6 months. I don't know if you posted any photos so I can't tell you anything more at this point.

It was visibly better two weeks ago. You couldn't see the thinning BUT it was longer. I buzzed it approx two weeks ago and the weird thinning circle was less visible then prior to starting minoxidil 6.5 months ago . But as it grew in over the last two weeks it seems thinner -even patchier than When it was longer. Should have taken a photo....
