Hi guys,
Thanks for your interest! Here is my problem: http://photobucket.com/albums/a5/novikuez/my%20head/?
(btw don't comment on my style its just for this photo session :))

My hair wasnt ever omnipresent but I first noticed hairloss like 4 years ago :( Now I want to do something about it! I am mainly interested in keeping what I still have. Also, I want to go topical-only.

Should I focus on preservation? or should I also try regrowing?

Is all what one gains lost once the treatment is halted?

Thanks and happy holidays to all!

You're hairloss is almost exactly like mine, but your temples are a tiny bit more receeded. I am also lighter haired.

This is the deal man, If you are happy with what you have, I would recommend getting Spironactalone cream or solution since you do not want finasteride (though honestly, I really really recommend finasteride, do not get overly scared about the sides they are REALLY REALLY RARE and reversible) in order to inhibit DHT. If you want to regrow, get on twice a day minoxidil 5% as well.

Do not forget Nizoral 1 or 2% shampoo, this is essential to any hairloss regimen. Lastly, be prepared for it to get slightly worse before it get's better.

Yes unfortunately if you stop treatment you will lose anything you gained. Treatment is a lifetime commitment, should you choose to pursue it.

How old are you by the way? I'm 24 and I first noticed my hairloss 4 years ago as well.

Good luck and keep us posted of any developments.

ouch!
I am 24 too, man, i feel like its hitting us too early!
BTW
Say that spironolactone will stop further loss, what happens when I get off it?
Do I loose all what I was able to hold on to?

Greetz!

Your hair isn't terrible. Most "normal" people won't think you're balding at all.

Preservation/regrowth are more or less the same. It's simply a matter of degrees. If you can cut the DHT off from your follicles, and they respond well, the affected hair will become thicker - more cosmetically normal. If the follicles don't respond that well, you'll just maintain.

spironolactone is your best bet, though I must advise you that you're unlikely to maintain for years with it. I strongly suggest finasteride.

Hair gained from treatment will be lost once treatment is severed, yes. It can take a while, but you will eventually get back to baseline.

i have question of returning to baseline after stoping treatments like you mention. Let's say you take finasteride for 5 years, and then decide to stop, does this mean you go back to to exactly where you where 5 years prior before you started, or does this mean that you go to the state that you would have been at the five years later with no treatment (essentially much worse). Thanks!
