Nuggz' Story- 30 years. 4 Month Update with pictures!

Hello all, thanks for taking the time to read my story and I appreciate and feedback from experienced members. At first I neglected to take action because I was little in denial from peoples comments, then after seeing my vertex balding, I decided to try a few things and find a forum where I could read real reviews from users.

I Used Gels/Sprays in my teen years with semi-short hair.
At Age 26 I decided to let my hair grow out. By age 27 I had relatively long hair. No signs of thinning or hair loss. I maintained my long hair with general shampoo and conditioner such as Garnier Fructis to help keep my hair fritz free. My hair tended to curl up or become wavy, so I would sometimes comb it back and use leave in conditioner and air dry on its own. Never blow dry or used any gel/hairspray when my hair was long. This would make my hair straight but the tips would be wavy. I was happy and finally found a hairstyle i relished. This would only last until i reached 29, This was the first hints of balding and hair loss. Hair Loss was primarily in the vertex region, so I never really kept an eye of it, until family started mentioning it. I could have been losing hair before my 29th birthday, but I never really kept an eye out for hair loss in the shower, or it was not blatantly obvious.

Few months after my 29th Bday, I visited my hair stylist and she recommended Nioxin, which i have been using for 6 months or more. I can't say whether it's helping or not, the hair loss seems to be about the same and I have kept with it, because reviews have been relatively good.

I am now 5 or so months away from my 30th Bday, and decided to begin using Rogaine Minoxidil 5% Liquid form. I caved in from being skeptical after reading reviews of success stories from amazon and other forums. I understand you must commit and it's also not for everyone. With that in mind, I am on my 3rd day and haven't felt any side effects and I believe I am seeing less hair fall. I chose the Liquid over the Foam due to my hair length of 3-4". I believe this length also makes it easier to perceive my balding areas, but I actually had it longer around 8-9".

So this is my story and thanks for listening. I don't know where to go from here now, except to continue with Nioxin and Rogaine extra strength 5% liquid. I have considered a DHT blocker but I generally hate taking any sort of pill.

I will continue to read this forum and hopefully gather great advice and feedback. It's really hard to take anything posted on the internet and I figured a forum would be my best bet. I will also find a way to post some pics, as I know it can be helpful to the community and myself.

Feedback is appreciated and Thanks in advanced.

Re: Nuggz' Story- 29 turning 30. Starting Treatment w/Pics!

That is the next step I plan to add to my regimen, but I can't just take anything without research. It's very hard to read real reviews by people. If you do a Google search, you see tons of advertisement with glorified reviews and then you also see tons of lawsuit pages. It's very frightening for anyone looking on what DHT blocker to start with. Any suggestions here ? Is seeing a doctor the best way to start? I am relatively healthy and was thinking of doing some test run on a DHT blocker and stop if side effects became too much.

I just found this forum, so I am reading on peoples regimen and noticing tons of options.

Thanks for your reply, but more feedback would be grateful.

according to clinical test 98% have no sides. how many of thousands of people who have side effects actually bought propecia? Propecia is one of most copied drugs and it is an extremely easy drug to sell online.

Re: Nuggz' Story- 29 turning 30. Starting Treatment w/Pics!

I see your regimen includes propecia.

Did you see a doctor first?

I am almost at the stage that I believe I would benefit from propecia, but haven't decided if I visit a doctor first.

I am going to research propecia, as it seems to be a good DHT blocker. I just hope I don't experience side effects.

Thanks for your input, It has motivated me to research a DHT blocker, as it seems like a logical next step to add to my regimen.

Do you, or anyone have any other steps that I should consider in my regimen?

Thanks!

Being that you were a little older when your hairloss started, it's somewhat diffuse and looks to be a little red (?), then using 2% Nizoral would probably be enough to maintain (plus whatever growth you get from minoxidil).

Get on that now while you're deciding whether or not to use Propecia. Use it for a week straight (leave in for 5 min) and then switch to every other day.

Re: Nuggz' Story- 29 turning 30. Starting Treatment w/Pics!

Thanks for everyone's help.

I did notice my scalp red in those pictures. I am not sure if it's due to the Nioxin Shampoo/conditioner that I use or if its because of the Rogaine Minoxidil, could be both. No itching though or discomfort.

I checked my scalp this morning and noticed no redness.
I might have taken the second set of pictures after applying some treatment.
Either way, I will look into it and I do plan on starting the Big 3 as I have learned them to be.

I am looking into finasteride and reading that generic is just as good as propecia but a lot cheaper and might have to cut into pieces if proscar is used. Then dutasteride is also something i stumbled across but haven't read enough yet.

Thanks again for the feedback. I will log and take pictures to compare results. I will also post pics time to time to hopefully keep a log for anyone in this forum to benefit from.

Ordering generic finasteride is very easy - there are a number of pharmacies that guys on hair loss forums use consistently.

Unitedpharmacies.com
Inhousepharmacy.biz
4rx.com
Alldaychemist.com

I have purchased finasteride from inhouse and unitedpharmacies - both legit because i am now impotent due to using finasteride. The other have proved legitimate with hormonal treatments and cialis/ v****.

Re: Nuggz' Story- 29 turning 30. Starting Treatment w/Pics!

Thanks for the links fincar18.

I have not made the decision on a DHT blocker but I am close on giving it a try. Part of the reason is because there is so much to read here. So I just want to take it all in and learn from peoples regimens and options.

If i do start with it, I might start out @ 0.5mg and maybe I can lessen the probability of side effects.

I am noticing less shedding recently, so I need to see if my shedding continues to stay low or return to what it was before. Perhaps also find out what's causing less shedding. Hair is also starting to feel stronger when i run my fingers through it. I know i should expect more shedding with Rogaine, and perhaps I will.

Thanks again for the links, It's nice to check out all options.

Re: Nuggz' Story- 29 turning 30. 2 Month Pics update!

Thanks to all for their feedback.

I wanted to post some pictures to show where I am at 2 months later.
My favorite thing about this forum is people's timeline of pictures to (hopefully) a success story. I have been on Rogaine for 2 months now. I went ahead and started Nizoral 2% and finasteride 1mg/daily (7 days so far and no side effects).

I even contemplated buzzing my hair down. Maybe I will in the future, but for now, all my pictures are taken with almost medium length hair (6" length). The lighting is the same, because I know it can be deceiving. Been using the same crappy phone camera and I plan to use a real camera for my timeline.

My shedding has been a lot less than usual, but i did have days with more shedding on Rogaine. I just think there is less to shed, and that's why it feels less than when i first started my hair loss. I have also decreased my stress from my previous job.

Today though, I experienced more hair loss but I believe it is from 1 week of starting finasteride. Either way, I plan to stick with my regimen until i experience side effects.

I will post pictures later, when I am a few months into my new regimen. 2 Months is not enough time on Rogaine alone to expect good results, but I believe it will serve some good for some people.

One of the main differences on the pictures is that the 10-28 picture has my hair with conditioner. I take Nizoral by itself, and leaves my hair not feeling as smooth. Though my vertex I believe is improving, but that could just be me. what do you guys think?

Feedback is welcomed and any tips or comments are always appreciated.
I share my progress here because I want to give back honest progress/results back to the community as well.

Update on my Battle vs male pattern baldness.

In my previous post I mentioned I was a bit stressed from work and living in the USA. So I decided to leave and start a life in Guatemala, my birth country. Since I am a U.S citizen, I decided to make a long trip and do as much traveling and exploring while I still can.

I shipped my stuff in a container to Guatemala with my 5 month supply of Finpecia. Shipment was delayed and I failed to bring them on the Airplane! I tried to bring 20-30 pills but misplaced them and didn't want to bring them all due to fear of Customs. To cut it short, I stopped treatment 1 month after starting it. So once my stuff arrived in March or so, I decided to start treatment right away and stick with it. It is now July and it's been about 4 months of non stop treatment with the big 3. I found out that they sell 5mg of finasteride here in Guatemala but I don't know if it's trustworthy. My grandmother is flying to Guatemala soon and I have decided to order 5mg of Fincar instead of finpecia to avoid ordering constantly and to save money.

So these pictures are really 4month update. People have mentioned that they have seen small improvement and look at the pictures, I want to believe it's true. So I decided to post them here and if you have any opinions, I appreciate it.
I have been contemplating cutting my hair to a length where it might help conceal the vertex. I always try to comb it in a way to conceal some as it is now. I am planning to stick to the regimen and post pictures every 2 months and hopefully one day become a success story. I am aware I still have plenty to go to see if it's truly working.

Oh my shedding has been crazy the last few weeks. I don't know if its the minoxidil or the finasteride but I believe the appearance of my hair is the same as when i started or perhaps improved, so maybe the shedding is not as bad as I want to believe it is.
When I arrived and was 1 month without treatment, the hairloss stopped almost completely, it was only until i started a few months into finasteride again, that I experienced massive shedding. I want to believe my hair feels and looks thicker/stronger.

I might post pics of my hairline, but I think it's my vertex that's really the issue for me.

Out of curiosity Nuggz, where did you get your finasteride from in the end? I've been on cilpa Finpecia from Goa for 1 week so far.

I ordered my finpecia from inhousepharmacies. I believe the Cipla Goa facility. I placed another order from there but this time for fincar 5mg. My scalp was red in the first post and now it looks normal. I don't know if it had to due with treatment. Still on the big 3 but using Nizoral once to twice a week at most. Still on minoxidil and finasteride 1mg everyday. I will post pics every two months to keep a log and refrence for anyone who needs it. Thanks for feedback from pics.
