hi,

i'm really glad i found this site... every1 around here seems very nice and helpful. as i'm sure i'll spend many more hours reading through the forums, i want to go ahead and tell my story and see what recomendations i can get.

i'm 24 and i've lost quite a lot hair already (a decent amount on the back and the hairline kind of more on the sides... don't have camre or i'll take pics... will see if i can get one)... wearing hats a lot, etc, etc... i'm sure you know the story...

i also have a birthmark which is about half an inch wide, not a circle, but some similar werid shape (i've never had hair there and i've used to cover it with other hair which is thinning up and not doing the job anymore) and i'm wondering if a hair transpantation procedure will help since i've never had any hair there.

basically what i've been thinking as far as a plan (if possible of course) is to start using some product(s) to aid my hairloss and also have a hair transplant operation done to remove my birthmark (if possible). from what i understant, pretty much rogaine + (some form of) propecia is my best bet... i've also read that there's other products that have the exact same ingredients as propecia that you can buy online and you don't even need a prescription.

as far as hair transplantation, what i've read so far is that a) the doctor is very important (duh) and b) most people spend around $10K but i assume that's for men with more severe hairloss that do a lot of folicles...

also, what kind of scars are left on your scalp from these operations? what would you look like if you shaved your head in a few years lets say?

well, thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any replies.

Hello obfl,

Yes pics would be great so we can more accurately assess your situation.

Don't know about the birthmark and growing hair there.

As for products to use, you have two options for getting them: get a prescription from a local doctor for finasteride(brand name proscar or propecia) or dutasteride(brand name avodart). Since you said your hair loss is severe you might start with the stronger dutasteride medication.

You can get a doctor to write an off-label prescription for you, maybe, or you can get it online from a site like this:

http://www.inhousephrarmacy.com

or

http://www.unitedpharmacies.com

Both of these sites are supposed to be reputable. I would get the generic version of dutasteride because it's much cheaper- generic is called dutas.

For regrowing hair you can buy 5% minoxidil from http://www.minoxidildirect.com or at a wal-mart or sam's club near you if you live in the US.

You can get Tricomin spray for copper peptides or Folligen spray.

You should be using Nizoral shampoo every 3 days in place of your normal shampoo.
