I’ve been on finasteride for about 7 months, at first I could notice results but now I I’m losing hair again, I stopped taking minoxidil properly about 3 months ago, I’m guessing that’s the issue? Or should I up my mg on finasteride?

First off. You posted in the wrong section.

Secondly. I would put it on stopping minoxidil. Why did you stop?
Upping your dosage for finasteride shouldn't make much difference if you're already taking 1mg daily.

who is to say he would not have regrown those hairs from finasteride that are now minoxidil dependent though? To the OP, give it another few months.

You’re feeling hopeful because you’ve recently quit minoxidil correct ?

Have you any reports of this happening ?

@Roses most would advise that hair grown with growth stims (minoxidil) in particular do not grow without continued treatment.

No im not feeling hopeful, i think once hair becomes minoxidil dependent it won't grow back without minoxidil. Another reason i wish i never started using it and stuck to finasteride for a year instead, i don't think it should be recommend to people before using finasteride alone for a year first. Yet people on this forum are always recommending it for newbies. It was just over a month ago i stopped, im not noticing much of a difference in my hair. Perhaps finasteride will regrow more hair than minoxidil did, even though i feel minoxidil thinned my crown and that will offset any benefits minoxidil may have had and all in all i will have a decent amount of hair on my crown area in 6/7 months time.

I wish you the best of luck this sh*t is very burdensome and down right crippling if you care about your hair enough.

But then if you are in agreement with me there’s no reason for OP to wait a few more months yeah ? Fina may very well give some growth of its own but if you want to try and save minoxidil hair... you use minoxidil.

I said wait a few months because your hair sheds when stopping minoxidil, goes below baseline for a while then rebounds and returns back to what it would have been without minoxidil. His gains from finasteride might be enough offset any difference minoxidil made. That will be one less thing to do in your hair regime and the OP never stated why he stopped, he might have had side-effects, which imo are more common than side-effects from finasteride. Another reason it should not be recommended so easily to people just starting to tackle their hair problems.
