Hi,

I started finasteride about 6-7 years and it has worked in maintaining my hair. I do use minoxidil but not on a strict regime since it cases severe itchiness and dry flaky skin. I also take vitamins (ecophane) regularly.

I am looking for an addition to my regime, I know there is RU and other effective treatments but those are quite expensive. I believe the best option for me is maintaining finasteride (I currently break a pill into 6, would upping the dose help a bit?) and focusing on a healthy scalp since it is always so itchy and irritated because I use minoxidil and quite a lot of hair products daily. I also thought on taking up dutasteride and alternating it with finasteride. My worst hair loss regions are my temples, which I know is a difficult region for regrowth.

My hair is really thin naturally and sensitive and my scalp is quite dry most of the time, sometime it almost feels like it's stretched because it is so dry, maybe amenixil would be beneficial for me? I use head&shoulders daily and sometimes nizoral(just worsens the dryness). Sometimes I wash my hair with apple cider vinegar which cleans any build-up in my scalp and soothes the itchiness/skin irritation.

Thanks.

You might try upping the dose first. I was on it at .5mg for 3 years, then upped it to 1.25mg. I noticed better results in a few months.

Why do you need a new product if finasteride has worked in maintaining your hair?

You should try a low alcohol minoxidil. I changed from ordinary minoxidil to Spectral mx5's low alcohol formula because I had scalp irritation and flakiness, but not anymore!!
