On proscar -- starting workout regimen

I remember seeing someone post (on a different, non-hairloss forum) a while ago that people who work out and lift weights need to be cautious in using finasteride.

Does anyone have any information on whether there is any truth to this and if so, which precautions one needs to take?

I'm interested in working on my cardio-fitness (using treadmill, elliptical machine, bike) and toning my core and upper body using free-weights and machines. I'm not interested in body building.

I'm on 1.25 mg of proscar 1x day and Rogaine at night.

Thanks!

Just workout however you feel like when you are at the gym. I have been on finasteride for about 8 months and I have't noticed much of a difference in my workouts.

I really don't know what people are posting elsewhere but it most likely is a load of bull. You may be referring to people so a*** about diet, training fat % and all that jazz that they don't want to risk the slight hormonal changes cause by finasteride. Some people think it can hinder their performance but I haven't see that myself. Besides they are probablyy really serious about body building and you are just doing it to get/stay in good shape as am I.

Doesn't finasteride preventing testosterone from becoming DHT result in more testosterone in the muscles and rest of the body?

I work out and also am on finasteride for almost a year.
I don't notice anything from the finasteride, i still have muscle growth.

maybe this is because Testosterone is the primary androgen in the muscles.
This doesnt mean that DHT isn't important, DHT is the primary androgen in the nervous system so maybe one could experience a decrease/less increase in strength while on finasteride.
I personally don't notice it but i also don't know how strong i would have been without finasteride...so its hard to tell.

Also maybe in differs person to person.

I workout and condition regularly. I've encountered no problems with finasteride or dutasteride. None.

Because testosterone isn't being converted into DHT it anymore it can lead to slighlty higher levels of testosterone in the blood. I have read of people who have found a slight increase in muscle mass as a result of this. Haven't read any reason for caution when working out and using finasteride, though I would like to know if there is reason
