Hi

I have just taken a range of pics to get a final verdict … is my crown thinning ??? Lots of forumers on here ignore my posts assuming I am not thinning so this is my final plea for your opinions …
-ALL PICS TAKEN UNDER BATHROOM LIGHT
HAIR HASNT BEEN WASHED IN 3 DAYS (MY BAD!)

Pic 1 Hair brushed forward
Pic 2. Split the crown going against natural swirl
Pic 3 following natural swirl …
Pic 4 when styled and under

I’ve been on finasteride 0.5mg daily for 3 and a bit years …. Now worrying the crown is going I’ve upped it to 1mg day (however read if 0.5mg doesn’t work 1mg prob won’t work either so very worried )… also worried that perhaps my crown was like this before I started finasteride but I doubt it (pics I took back then were under diff lighting and diff cam)

Thanks in advance !

Another post no one will post on lol
It looks fine. It's hard to explain but those exposed lines or whatever are not typical of male pattern baldness, nor is having such healthy fringe hair. I would take finasteride and stop worrying about it. You have plenty that you can maintain so you are not really in the category that can be helped by some special advice. You appear to have an irregular collagen pattern in the crown, often called a cowlick and it can be combed only with difficulty. I had an enormous cowlick in the front that I despised my entire life until it was gone with the wind so to speak. Try microneedling the area in order to get the collagen pattern to become more regular if you care. So few of us have cowlicks on here anymore and that's a point of jealousy.

I’ve been on finasteride for 3 years 0.5mg daily . Going to up it now to 1mg a day but don’t hold out much hope as they say 0.5 is as good as 1mg.

He means come back maybe in two years when you actually have baldness or just take finasteride. finasteride is preventative.
Do you think so even with this pic of me fresh out of bed under the bathroom lighting ???

I look at people's hair constantly for signs and patterns and your pattern is very common among people not balding. Your dark hair color probably contributes to this as the contrast is less noticeable on blond and brown haired caucasian men. People with darker hair who are of European genetic stock mainly seem to bald at very high rates and often lose everything on top. They also tend to be excessively (value call) hairy all over their bodies, beard and bear hair. So look for other clues like how hairy you are and it's better to be hairless. Nothing's 100 percent and some extremely hairy guys keep their scalp hair but it's usually of a hair-helmet type of hair, which I distinctly don't like or want, maybe like Tom Selleck's is an example. Hairy chests in cinema were huge in the 70's and considered appealing; now eh, I don't like hairy arms on anybody.

Thanks JaneyElizabeth. I will stick on the finasteride and cross my fingers you’re correct and I don’t experience further loss .

I think I annoy everyone on this forum for some reason as very few respond to my posts with their opinion as you have kindly done .

I find your posts very amusing with the anecdotes you include . They do make me chuckle.

Why, thank you. Janey believes that answers can be both fun and informative. I am almost 57 and I noticed an incipient bald spot the night before my 20th birthday so I have a lot of experience in all of this and I have been obsessed with hair lines and finding treatments that work but not just a little. People want options that actually work in terms of being cosmetically significant so except for the experimental drugs, I have tried essentially all treatments with decent success at maintaining my bald spot still incipient until it finally started to go around 50 and I was like, "nope. I am not doing this again". So I made the decision that my hair mattered more to me than anything and I "jumped ship" while I still had half a head of crummy hair but even that gives us a leg up when new treatments come out.

I don't know what obsessive is but hand mirrors to inspect my carefully combed incipient bald spot is something I have spent hundreds of hours at. Diffuse guys know how bad the wind is; it just ruins your presentation at work when you come in with hair strewn all about one's head. I hope you don't have to become an expert at all of this but remember microneedling seems to pretty much always work some and it mixes well with other treatments.

Thanks JaneyElizabeth .

Anyone else ???
Looks fine for now. All you can do is watch it and take photos every six months to see if there is a change. If you stay on finasteride, you are more likely to keep it stable if you are slowing thinning there.

This was my crown 4 years ago aged 30 when I decided to get on 0.5mg daily .

Do increasing the dose to 1mg a day work @DoctorHouse

Thanks @DoctorHouse . Would you say I’ve further thinned since 4 years ago or do you still think there’s no signs of evident male pattern baldness?

thanks in advance

That's a perfect mature hair line with a tiny bit of recession in the corners which is what is most cosmetically appealing for males in my opinion.

Losing a little in the corners adds maturity and makes you seem balanced without any hair helmet look and you can part it wherever you want without the infamous but semi-distinguished "sweep back" to cover any incipient bald spot like many of us have, well, had to do. Still pretty sure it's but a cowlick in back and microneedling is great for hair and face.

Thanks @JaneyElizabeth

So you still think just a mature hairline and not receding ?
My friend, my eyes go blurry after a while and some times I go back and change my mind which shows the limits of evaluating through pics so if I said something formerly, stick with that but I mostly look for recognizable patterns and how they might come together from different parts of the scalp. Diffuse thinning can look entirely different indoors and outdoors. Lighting matters a lot but I value my hair so much that I would just start at 17 or 18 for maintenance. I have never been able to be myself since I started losing hair so yeah, maintenance can help preserve personality attributes.
