Shed -

Weird, we had about 6 guys in there tonight.

Cassin showed up, along with bombscience and a few other guys.

Give it another try and if it still doesn't work, can you "PM" me with your computer specs? Like for instance are you using the horrible Netscape browser or the wonderful Internet Explorer? :) I bet I can guess!

Wonderful -

Seems about 40% of people either get no applet to show up, or their entire machine freezes. Even when using IE.

Any techies wanna help me on this one?

Another possibility is the security settings that folks might have their browsers set on. On IE, I believe setting the security to 'high' will prevent loading of java applets? If they move the slider down to 'medium', it should fix the trick.

For now maybe people should just use Mirc till the bugs get worked out?

Mine won't connect with the java one or with mirc. Maybe my router is stopping it? It all gets right up to the point where it say trying to connect.

He should still be able to connect by MIRC.

Shed - in your MIRC there is a place .. i think where you input your username, etc.. or one of those screens there... where port number is defined. Make sure 6667 is in there.

Im getting an IRC expert to help me tomorrow so I'll bring this up and see if he can figure out why it might be happening.

Try it again though. I did some changes tonight. Please post here as to whether you can get in or not.

Some newer versions of Windows (XP) and/or IE either don't ship with Java at all or ship with the old Microsoft VM (which is somewhat useless). If you don't have a recent Sun Java runtime, then grab it here:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
(Download the Windows Installation JRE, not the SDK)

Also, I noticed that after the applet loads the security prompt it can get hidden behind the browser window if you shift focus away from it. So it's best to wait on the current window while it's doing its thing.

Like Gardener said, security should be on medium (or lower). There also weren't any issues with my Linksys router (using default settings).

There should be *NO* security prompt right now!

Try it again.

As for the router, that could definitely be the problem.

I am behind a router too, and two firewalls would need the same ports open I believe.

Try changing your port number to 80.

Stop - please let me know if you still see a security popup.
