i've started taking pictures since starting finasteride.

took a few last week, and then tonight, i took a few more.

i noticed only very very slight difference, but it was for the worse. as in, it looked thinner.

is this because of the shedding? or could it simply be bad camera angles? bad hair day? what?

or is it also just too early to tell whether finasteride is helping me?

you want to make a comparison at least at the 4 month level, when hair actually starts to regrow

remember, even stopping or slowing down male pattern baldness is an amazing achievement that you would not have otherwise

So basically, anything that happens between now and the 4 month level shouldn't be taken too seriously? (except if I wake up with a bald patch of course).

I am also going to add nizoral to my regime. What is the difference between 2% and 1%? I've ordered 2% because I thought, the more the better.

2% Nizoral is just a stronger version. I use that.

Dude, not to disturb you but you might as well be warned...be prepared because you might not look your best within the next 5 months. My hair looked like sh*t. Around the 6 month mark things got a bit better. Its good that you're taking pics, that way you will keep it real.

Do you mean from the shedding?

Now, after the 6 months, has your hair actually improved when comparing from day 1? or has it actually gotten worse?

Yeah I went through a pretty bad shed. I did look a little worst. But just because I went through that it doesn't mean you will shed and look bad, I am just trying to warn you in case you do experience something similar.

Oh I'm definetely much better than when I started in February. Then again, I'm also on minoxidil since july.

Hmm. Well I just stopped minoxidil a few weeks ago.

Were you tempted to quit finasteride after those months of bad hair days? Or did you know it would help, so you stuck with it?

How did you know the treatment wasn't doing harm to your hair?

Well, I was never tempted to stop finasteride because I was losing my hair before starting treatment, so I told myself that even if I got worse why care? I mean, I'm losing it anyway so I might as well get over it.

At least thats psychology I used and still use because I still need at least 4 more months to evaluate things.

As far as knowing if the treatment was harming my hair, I took some pics, and I noticed that my crown actually improved at the 5 month mark even though I did shed quite a bit. My hairline did not present any differences, so thats why I added minoxidil, to see if I could improve that.

That's a good phychology. Better than mine by far. Mine is: If I don't get my hair back, I will probably end up killing myself.

This is truly how I felt at one point in my life. I just hated everything about male pattern baldness and I was very depressed.

I'll adopt your way of thinking for now. Hopefully in a few years, HM will come out, but maybe by then I wont need it. Here's hoping.

thats a little how i felt about 6 months ago. but i think eventually u realise it isnt SUCH an important thing... but still important enough for me to come to hairlosstalk every day :) and besides, there's a lot we can do to fight male pattern baldness.
