Background: I used oral Finasteride 1mg for ~ 8 years. It probably slowed my hair loss but it didn't stop it. So I switched to 0.5mg Dutasteride and have been on it for~ 3 years. Based on my own self-evaluation, I'd say my hair loss slowed even more on Dutasteride but alas, the thinning continues.
Question: would it make sense to use topical Finasteride in addition to oral Dutasteride / Finasteride? The idea would be that while Dutasteride reduces serum DHT by 90+%, it does not reduce scalp DHT by nearly that much. However, topical Finasteride may have the potential to decrease scalp DHT by more (although I'm unsure about this, I couldn't find much clinical evidence either way). I don't see many people recommending this, so I figured that perhaps using both is redundant and / or not safe. Would it make more sense to add the alternative topical anti-androgens like Ru58841 or Spironolactone instead? Thoughts? Suggestions? Thank you.
