Hi,

I've been on 1mg oral finasteride and 1mg oral min for a year and two months.

I know this will sound triggering to some, especially with no photo evidence, but take me at my word, even just for argument's sake if you're convinced I'm being dishonest.

Very slowly progressing and minimal crown thinning prior to starting treatment - barely noticeable small spot visible only if you separated my hair. VERY thick hair everywhere else.

Within a two or three months of starting treatment my thinning became rapid, diffuse and brutal. Zero other sides - increased libido if anything. This thinning has not let up and has continued the whole way through until now. I have seriously lost over 60-70% density since starting treatment.

I remained with the treatment because I was convinced it was a shed and that it would grow back to somewhere close to baseline at least. I'm in a position now where I'm finally considering stopping treatment.

I've read a few threads on here where people have reported similar loss, but apparently these cases are extremely rare.

Does anyone have input or would like to share their experience?

Thanks

You stuck to the same brand medication and what brand Finasteride medication are you using? Why not remove oral minoxidil and see?

The other alternative is try Dutasteride……

Made by chemist - so unsure of brand.

Have you heard of anyone having constant quickly progressing thinning over a year on oral min?

I'm wondering if I should stop oral min or oral finasteride, or both.

Seems unlikely after a year and two months that things would get any better given I am dramatically below baseline.

Well, I'm pretty hairy anyway and it didn't result in extra after the year of treatment. Except for thinning 60% scalp hair.

Does anyone have opinion on whether or not I should cease taking either oral min or oral finasteride first? In case one of them is responsible for destroying me 60% lower than baseline. Is one more likely to have this effect than the other?

I'm definitely no expert, but finasteride seems more likely to backfire because it fucks around with hormones. Or is min just as likely to have a backwards effect?

Thanks

Happened here as well. Treatments accelerated minimal slow thinning by years, now I’m diffuse AF.

Your situation sounds like mine. finasteride made me shed hair literally everywhere on my body and especially the scalp. I think it causes some kind of hormone imbalance or androgen sensitivity upregulation with us. I'm off finasteride and don't shed body hair anymore like I used to and don't shed as much scalp hair. My scalp actually may be thicker now but my hairline sucks

I'd quit the finasteride first. In my experience when I quit finasteride I actually got some thickening after because of how bad I was shedding from it. But when I quit minoxidil last year I got insane hairloss very quickly that I really havent been able to recover from

Thanks so much for responding, Matt. Sounds like I should quit the finasteride first. Strange how rare this reaction seems to be. People taking it mainly dor maintenace are probably more uncommon anyway.

How long were you on finasteride and min and what dosage?

I was on finasteride for 6 months when I quit and I was on minoxidil for about 18 months when I initially quit. Be absolutely certain before you quit though. Really analyze your before and after pics to see if you are really much worse off on finasteride. It's sounds like you are though.

1 year 5 months. Still getting worse. I really need to stop finasteride, but it's probably too late.
